I have never owned a harvest droid ( allways did the harvesting my self ) How exactly do they work? Do they just scan the battlefield looking for creatures to harvest, or do you have to have dead creature targeted and shout harvest? I'm lost........

I just bought a R3 Droid with 6 harvest modules. I decided to test it outside the shop and hunt level 1-4 critters, as it was on Naboo.

With Droid I got 5 meat
Without Droid I got 8 meat

Is this a bug? I was not grouped with the droid or anyone. Or do I have to hunt higher level stuff before it starts benefiting me?

There are a couple things that could be influencing this. The main ones are if you're a master ranger (master rangers get the shaft on harvesting droids right now), if you're in a group (you get a bonus for harvesting in a group and the droid gets a penalty, whether the droid is grouped or not). There is some evidence of CL affecting harvesting output too. These are all bugs.

I'm novice scout. My template doesn't have room for anything higher without sacrificing combat boxes.

If you are a novice scout and don't group with anybody, the droid should help a lot. Try hunting higher level creatures.

If something changed, please come back here and let us know.
