Ok, lets see what everyone thinks about this.

Give droid engineers the ability to build high level combat droids for the purpose of Faction Base defense.

Here's my logic.

Devs argue that adding high level combat droids to players right now gives too much power to players and creates balance problems.

We want high level combat droids in some form, and for our profession to be "required"

Turrets at faction bases are bugged to hell and back, and do not prevent anyone from raiding bases right now.

My idea is for us to create droid deeds that can be donated to faction bases (the same way as turrets and other defenses are). The faction base would then spawn our high level combat droids to protect the base. Sooner or later, these droids would be killed by raids, and this would provide more sales to Droid Engineers. For GCW players, it would add another dimension to how faction bases are defended and attacked.

So, what do you all think?

Hey,

Master on Bria,

That said, I disagree with your statement, not just for a flame, but seriously, in the movies, how many citizens did you see with battle droids? I think we need more of a Utility market, Survey Droids etc...stuff ppl can use for every day mundane tasks that they dont wanna do themselves, i mean thats the whole point of a droid, heck, if ppl wanna fight then they shud get elite craft prof and CH...sure combat droids r cool, and they sellin real nice so im not really complqaining.

In no way, not one little bit, do I think that this should replace droid utility.

However, high level droids are coming. Right now, I think that those of us who don't want to see Wedge running around with 3 killer can openers can just look for ways to make the higher droids a good part of the game with out introducing balance problems and pokiemon complexes.

This idea wouldn't give droids to players. You wouldn't see them running around town. It would attatch them to faction bases.

With yesterday's news from TK, I wanted to run this up the flagpole again and see if anyone will salute.

The idea of Factional Pets that are part of the DE combat droid arsenal has been mentioned before I think. So, the basis of the idea is good. I do have some questions about how we would make this work, and I think it would be really interesting to see what a fleshed out idea on Faction Pets might look like for us DE's. Think you might be willing to throw something together that lays out a bit more of this so that we can attack you like a pack of wild dogs?

My idea is for us to create droid deeds that can be donated to faction bases (the same way as turrets and other defenses are). The faction base would then spawn our high level combat droids to protect the base.

How would we tie in the droids to the faction base? Would it be something like a maxDL (droid level) or would it be a total number of droids? If they are donated, like turrets and minefields, would there be another way to operate them if there was a need? How would they function in defense of the base so as not to unbalance the whole attack/defense scenario? Would they guard certain points within the base, or would they scurry forth to crush the brutish invaders? I think the idea has merit, but I think we need to focus in on what we want the droids to do in this role. An ill-defined roll will almost certainly doom any attempt we have. Heck, we have just seen a very well refined and compelling proposal bite the dust, so we need to make sure we dot the i's and cross the t's!

Good start though, don't stop those wheels from spinning.

Thanks, but if you look at the date on the first post, I've floated this idea before. I could really use some help fleshing it out though.

How bout just letting DE's craft faction droids? I mean we can run around with Stormtroopers and ATST's, why not droids? Let there be a reasonable limit to how many you can have, have to be overt to have them out, etc. Perhaps a player could buy the "rights" to a combat droids through factions ponits? Would he buy the rights to use a droid that he has already bought from a DE? Or would he buy a "faction chip" or something that he could insert into the droid to make it activate? Would the DE have to install the chip in the crafting process? The last question I posed kind of sucks because you'd basically be doing a lot of custom orders instead of stocking a vendor with them, but at least it would be something. Of couse a player would have to be overt to use the droids, like other faction pets. I don't see the big deal, all this "imbalance" stuff is crap. I recently decided to take another stab at DE when the last publish was coming up, then after I trained Novice I came back here to see what was happenin. Well I dropped it again the other day. I don't want to justcraft mobile crating stations or storage droids. I want to make combat droids, as well as the old utility droids and new utility droids.

As far as what you're saying about suing them for bases, sounds good to me. Anything to get them in the game, even if it limits them to bases.

I like the faction pet idea too, but their use will belimited by the current faction pet rules. I don't know if players would risk losing their faction pets in PVP or just running missons. I'd love to see it tried though.

The thought behind using them as base droids was that it could add another way to defend a base besides bugged turrents and underpowered troops. Maybe it could even be added during GCW revamp?
