There is hope yet. Do like I finally did. Click that surrender button. I've been doing droid engineering since beta. I finally surrendered and I am having a bit of fun in the game again. Yippee. That was the true intention behind these droid publishes. To finally rid the game of the profession.

I was just reviewing many of the posts thru out the forum. There is really no suprise that so much of what is written is dripping with anger, smothered in angst, roasted over frustration, and carries an aroma of pain and sadness.

There are SOOO many people that want to have fun playing SWG. "Immerse yourself in Star Wars in a way you've only dreamed." That's what the SOE ad banner promises. But it is so crystal clear to most everyone that SWG is just another run of the mill MMPORPG.

Yet, to the credit of everyone in this forum, people are clinging to an as-of-yet un-realized dream. To be a Droid Engineer. This is perhaps the most "Star Warsie" thing a new player could hope to do in the game. As undeveloped as the profession is, so many players are not giving up on DE. More so than any other profession in the game, DEs are unwilling to move on to other professions. For many, it is a simple choice to play DE, or not play at all.

90% of the dissatisfaction that is expressed in this forum can be broken into the following catagories:

  1. SOE won't tell us what to expect, or what is planned. They would rather hide behind their apple-polishing Coorespondent Heat Shield Program, than risk the backlash when a known plan fails.

  2. The community is dissatisfied with SOE's utter contempt for droids. The SOE staff, not being Star Wars fans themselves, curse George Lucas for ever including droids in the story line. How easy their lives would be if they didn't have to try and shoe-horn them into the game. The reality is that this is a job for them, not a passion. There is very little work related passion left in the world. In this, SOE is no different.

  3. Pesky Bugs. Since launch, there have been irritating bugs that severly reduce the appeal of droid to non-DE players. The only reponse we ever got as to why was that there is never enough time. Which leads me into my final point...

  4. SOE has broken our trust with P7. Early on, when DEs were feeling down, and left out of the "We Care" club, SOE stated we would have thedevelopers complete attention for P7 & P8. What we got was a chocolate covered turd, and it wasn't even sweet chocolate. Yet, low and behold... Is this wookie armor I see? Bet that took some time. And how about those mini-krayt invations? Looks like SOE has plenty of time on their hands for cute, crowd pleasing gimmicks.

  5. But more than anything, DEs just want to know WHY? Why have we been neglected? Just tell us why? Don't pretend we haven't been. Just give it to use straight. Our coorespondent can't or won't., so either let him, or tell us yourselves.

So then, after that longwinded, high pitched whine, what would the dirty trick be? If P8 was really somethingsuprising like TK has said it will be. Wouldn't SOE be smug after all the DEs were shut up once and for all, after all their whinig?

Hehe... I'll shut up. No problem... But it had better be a real good suprise.

I know I cant speak for the community at large, but for me personally, I REFUSE to get my hopes up again, and I dont think I am in the minority on this. Yeah, it would be cool. And yes, 90% of the stuff SOE does for this game is a secret until its on Test or even dropped on Live. So yes, its possible there is a suprise for us in P8. But NO, I will not look for it, and if it happens, I will likely just curse the Devs for letting it take so long. But, as you said, they had time for Wookie to get armor to top off thier HUGE HAM (read:unbalancing) advantage. And of course their sucking up to the jedi in the game too takes loads of time.

However, i am looking foward to #8. I think utility has always been a strong point, and could they....i mean really....could they do it to us twice in a row???

I'm nota DE anymore, i quit along time ago to progress towards more rewarding professions, but i totally agree with your post, nothing has changed since i first started the game for DEs, and i too, as a BH am also feeling the pain.

SOE should bite their bottom-lip and start appologising and being more honest and open with thier failures, and developments.

I am just responding to the part I "oranged" above.

They cannot figure out what to do with us because we don't fit the mold of all the fantasy games that came before SWG. They should have hired Science Fiction writers, futurists, and such when they were designing this game because what they have created is a fantasy game with different names. These guys are just following the established "safe means of creating a MMO" that came before SWG.

Doctors (clerics) resurrect the dead, heal outrageous wounds is seconds, and "buff" people to superhuman levels. Creature Handlers (summoners)can call, out of thin air, more and more powerful animals to fight for them and do their bidding. Bio-Engineers create clothing that does some pretty incredible stuff that I believe fits the genre well, but lets face it, if there were no Wizards creating magic robes and such in the fantasy genre we wouldn't see BEsdoing that in this game. Armorsmiths and Weaponsmiths belong in SWG, but why can they create better weapons with the body parts of DRAGONS than they science that brought us the hyperdrive can produce? Well, because that's how it's donein fantasy games. Look around at the starport, why are so many people holding melee weapons in a science fiction setting? Why are there 5 professions dedicated to fighing in a melee style, while there is only one profession that is dedicated to High Technology (droid engineers).

The answer is simple:They eitherdidn'thave thetalent pool for developing truly original ideas or the producers (pseudo-creative, middle-management bozos who interfere with the artistic and creative staff) didn't have the gutsor the vision to implement the original ideas they gotfrom their staff. They knew they had to include us but withoutusing original ideaswe got the best they could design inover 4years of trying.

My suggestion to the producers at SOE: get out of the way of the artists you've hired, and eat plenty of calcium. The artists will then create things that are cool and original, and you might actually be able tofortify those limp spines of yours.

TK has not really come out and say that there is a suprise in publish 8. If you ask me i think he's hinting at perhaps some Space Expantion infomation that he may know. I do belive him when he says good things are on the way, I can only hope. After all you do need a astromech to assist in the flying of some ships.

I have said it before. This game was created by a bunch of D&D monkeys that have no vision of what a futuristic sci-fi game should be.

Easy answer is, they dont want to upset the CHs and BEs. Trying to balance all pets at CL 10 for all people is just stupid.

Instead, let certain pets, both dorid and creature, start at level 10. Then have the resources we use, and our skill actually mean something, and allow us to experiment them up to say a max CL of 20, but still usable by all players. Then good DEs and BEs would stand out in a crowd, and every droid would not be a clone of every other droid out there.

As it stands, resources and skill mean nothing. I can make an R3 with 6 combat rated modules of 99. Or total of 594. Droid is damage 145-155 speed 1.54 skill. 34.

Same droid with combat modules of rating of 79 or total of 474. Reslult? An R3 with damage of 138-148 Speed 1.54 skill .34. In battle you can not tell the difference, but the quality of the 2 different coppers needed is huge.

As it stands, the only stat we can affect on final build is HAM. My best result on an R3? HAM of 1666. My failures? HAM of 1550. So at the difference between my failures and successes is 7%.

Compare that to any other artisan class. They can increase some stats 100% through experimentation. Face it, DEs are the unloved artisan class.
