Not sure if someone mentioned this already, but if you have an astrodroid with a repair module running while on board a multiplayer ship, and the ship takes damage the astrodroid should automatically just go and start fixing the damaged unit. And he shouldn't take any fire damage from any plasma leaks either. That's what droids do.
