Thread: DE should have been an ADD-ON
DE should have been an ADD-ON like the mounts, vehicles and cities. Its basically been a place-holder for 2 months now and for at least another month. It would have served everyone better to not even have it available during launch. I would have tried something that worked first, than would have still moved to DE when it came out with 3-6 months of extra work on it. No one would have missed us. Everything we have to offer now is either useless of convienient, not essential.
Imagine if they did vehilces the way they did DE. Alot of people would have tried it and it would have gone like this:
The basic item a Novice Mechanic could make would be the pogo stick. The top blueprint item would be the 1 seat landspeeder, but the pogo stick would have gone just as fast as the landspeeder and be able to have the same sized storage trunk. A master could make a snowspeeder, but it has no slots for storagage space and couldn't be ridden.
Now my point is, we know that vehicles are not done yet and they delayed its release, we also know that driods are not done yet, so it should have been delayed also.
And yet while you and others continue to whine about droids I continue a brisk business, while pointing out all the flaws. People WANT Droids, stop looking down on everything and start selling.
Medical modules work, Item storage works, Repair module works (in most droids), Crafting stations work (the bug with two or more crafting stations is universal, not just limited to inside of droids, so it's not a "Droid" bug). Probots have armor again so they can and do tank fairly effectively. Data storage works, though we are limited in what we can rightfully store. As far as the modules go there are very few that don't truly work. Yes there are some bugs to fix. Yes there are extras we would like to see. But we are by no means a broken profession, at least not anymore.
Cheer Up! Go out, make some Droids and have some fun ![]()
LOL! Very good, Valkyrie. Sadly, that is pretty much spot on.
Uhh.. im getting tired to those 'fix me' etc talks..
'Its basically been a place-holder for 2 months now and for at least another month'
I have made easily over 1m cr by crafting droids and i have been fun time doing it too. It is NOT any 'just place-holder'. It is thing which add depth to GAME and more optionsfor people to choose from. and in future even more.
'It would have served everyone better to not even have it available during launch'
To me it sounds like you wanted some elitewannabe career..
'I would have tried something that worked first'
It is working just fine. maybe you are on wrong business.
Keep crafting droids please!
I am a Fencer/Doctor on valcyn. I tried the CH thing and it's just not my style.
BUT I find that droids are. They add depth to my character and provide value when I am in the field and need to craft or heal people.
My simple R5 droid has allowed me to focus my gameplay and character trees into areas that I want.
KEEP CRAFTING. All I am in need of now is a good combat droid.
Ockale...Thanks for the juvenile flame..havn't had a good one in a while and am still waiting for one.
I have made several million on selling droids, but that does not make it fun. Your objectives are different than mine. Look outside your world and see that others exist with different expectations.
"It would have served everyone better to not even have it available during launch" is whining and also untrue. Think about when they DO get DE fixed (which I still have faith will happen). When there are droids that help with harvesters, communicate, and do other things for us, we'll make loads of money on them.
Your words aren't encouraging to an upcoming DE, and may drive some folks away from the profession. I prefer to learn it all now, broken or not, so that when the fruits of our labor (and waiting) are ready, I won't have to work my way up through it.
Is it ridiculous that things we reported in beta as broken are still not fixed? Yes it is -- but DE is not completely borked, and enough of it is functional enough for us to make our piles of cash. So I choose to just keep crafting. I have other skills that allow me to break away from DE from time to time, so my suggestion would be to enjoy those for a while if you're feeling bored.
Yes Anarka,
and people would have made money on the Pogo Sticks too.. There is such a limit on what can be bought and its very easy to come by money in the game that most people that have been playing since lauch have bought things from each artisan. I can also say from experience that driods are about the last purchase from most players that are not other crafters or medics (which is theminority of the population).
"To me it sounds like you wanted some elitewannabe career.."
- Um..no..I wanted a career where everything that was presented for me to make had a purpose other than pixel candy. Is that too much to ask for? I don't know where you are in the profession (I made a million with just BP2) but every droid is basically the same other than its looks. EVERY droid, that has at least one harness slot, can hold as many modules as you want. Several droids just exist, like the BLL, Power Droid and the basic 3PO.
"It is working just fine. maybe you are on wrong business."
Ok..'working just fine' is as an extream statement as 'nothing works'..I am working from a perspective where nothing did work correctly at launch. Things did not work for a good month and a half or got nurfed if it did do something useful. So again I say..it should have been an ADD-ON.
As far as the 'wrong bussiness' thing. Bussiness (making money) was never my goal after the first week of play. Making cool, functional droids is. So if you meant by your statment, thatI am in the wrong profession ifI expect the things I have been given to make be more than just cute and minimally useful, you are right on the 'money'. As a matter of fact, im just about to start dumping DE skills for Ranger skills, so you can take comfort thatyour statement is correct depending on how one reads it.

Oh, yeah, that sounds like a "juvenile flame".
Daltek..
The fact that someone is judging another persons opinion as 'whining' is a flame. It is completely uneccessary. If you would have taken 'whining' of your comment and just stayed with 'untrue' than I could have taken some of your comments to heart. Im hardly 'whining', I am stating from experience and making obeservations from those experiences.
With the personal insult aside, I willstill try and work objectivly and constructively with your thoughts.
I have alot of faith that DE will be cool also and right now would be a good time to start as a DE, because by the time these new DEs get to master, alot of the things wewant to see will probably be there when they get there. But thatis not my point. My point is, for those of us who started DE at launch, it was not ready for proper use yet. Evensome things that were advertised still do not exist. It would have served me better to have it released as designed later, as with the player cities and vehicles. I would have started with combat or some other craft and converted over to DE in a heatbeat.
I am on the verge of Novice Ranger now, so I am taking a break from DE as you have suggested. I will be selling off some of my DE and Artisan skills to get to Master Ranger. I have also made alot of factory crates of all the droid widgets, some complete droids and will be collecting plenty of resources during my Ranger Days to allow me to whip up a bunch of BLL chassies to get back to Master DE quickly, when the time comes that all the promises are realized.
I am hardly ever completely right about things, this is why I post here, to help me make adjustments from the comments I get from you folks. So please lay off judging people and get right to your constructive thoughts.
I reserve the right to flame a flame though...
I suspect I do owe an appology to Ockale. It is very hard for me to get past a response that begins with summarizing my thoughts as 'whining'. I have addressed his thoughts with some of my other posts here.
