Thread: what can droids do anyway?
I have a probot with a med 4 module and it acts like a hospital and will attack things when I ask it too. What I want to know is
Are there any benefits to the other droid types? is a surgical droid better at healing wounds and does it do anything else? What about R2 droids, and the others.
Is there a web page out there that explains what these droids actually do?
Ummm....there is a web page to find out all about it. You just posted on it........

The various droid chassis are mainly cosmetic, with the exception of how many modules it can hold. The exceptions are:
DZ models can attack (but are terrible combat droids).
Power droids can recharge other droids.
Probots can attack.
As a less sarcastic followup, here's what droids can do (largely dependant on which modules you put into them):
1. Allow medics/doctors to treat wounds outside a hospital (currently, in some cases, with even better success than in the hospital if the droid has a L6 med module) (medical module)
2. Store schematics (large quanties of storage are possible with multiple data modules; however, note that the ability to store schematics is more or less useless, since who carries around more than two or three schematics at a time?) (data module)
3. Store items. (capped at 10. Not sure if the bug that causes items to disappear still exists) (item storage module)
4. Serve as a portable crafting station (arguably the greatest benefit of droids, especially when a food/med station is combined with a L6 med unit. Many customers actually report greater successes with droid craft stations than with even high level personal crafting stations (+40 level). (weapon/droid, armor/clothing, food/med, or structure crafting station)
5. Attack (Most of the combat effectiveness of probotsis due to their ability to utilize medium armor with 40% across the board resists, which gives them an effective unarmor HAM of about 5600. However, their 50 extra dps is nothing to sneeze at, especially when you consider the amount of credits people pay for krayt dragon tissues which boost personal weapon dps by 30) (Probot and DZ70)
6. repair other droids wound damage (I've never actually see a droid take wound damage, so I wonder about this 'feature'. Plus the ability to repair other droids isn't so much a 'feature' as it is something that exists in some form for pretty much anything in the game (doctors, trick1 for pets, etc) (repair module)
7. Power other droids (requires a very expensive type of droid which can't do much but provide power. Also, given that each person can only have one droid out, it's impossible to use this type of droid to power your own combat/crafting/medical droids) (power droid [Gonk])
That's all I can remember off the top of my head. So you see, droids aren't completely useless. They basically provide added functionality for all the other classes. Unfortunately, everything a droid can provide can be found better/cheaper elsewhere- free ability to heal wounds in medical centers, private crafting stations with utility ratings made by master architects, backpacks (with up to 50 storage units), creatures, which do more damage and, in ch-only pets, can have radically higher damage and HAM/armor). About the only functional thing unique to droids is their data storage modules, which don't really have much usefulness currently.
Yes, droids take wounds. I made a little MSE for a friend to use to repair my Probot, then watched the diagnostics as the wounds were swiftly healed. So, that is quite nice.
One thing about the Power droid though... it goes to *low power* if you have it out too long.
I love the irony there; it's a walking power plant yet uses none of its own power. Priceless.
