Thread: Can someone explain to me why non ch pets are considered better then droids?

I have a rock beetle. All my pet is for is to take a hit or two for me. Now, rock beetle (one of the best non ch pets) has light armor and 2200 ham. My Droid has Medium armor and 830ish points. So, in combat this is how it breaks down:

Against mob hitting for 500 points.

rock beetle:
500*.5*.75=187.5
2200/187.5=11.73 hits before he dies

Probot:
500*.5*.5*.6=75
830/75=11.06 hits before he dies.

Now, if the mob has any of the long list of vulnerabilities of the rock beetle, it works like this:
2200/500=4.4 hits

So, the rock beetle out preforms slightly when mob uses damage he has armor verse. Yet, on average this medium armor probot does better.

So, to my question. Why should I not buy a heavy armor droid to replace my rock beetle?

500*.5*.5*.5*.6=37.5
830/37.5=21.3 hits before he dies.

Becuase your probot will do around 30-50 points of damage. It says 50, but I see moslt 40s. And while the probot does seem to be smart enough to try and stay back for ranged attacks (at least this last one I built does) the Rock beetle does 150 damage (3* Probot), has ranged attack (though likes to get up close and personal) and has knock down attack which the probot dosn't.

I set my Rock Beetle protect me and teh droid to protect the bettle. If I get attacked, the beetle jumps in and draws it off, then the probot jumps in and helps when the enemy starts attacking the beetle. Though I think I'm going to reverse that and have the probot jump in first.

Oh, well, the damage from a rock beetle does nto matter to me (I am a rifleman) since my damage is mostly to the mind. As for knock down, i seen my beetle do a posture change, but, never a kd. Could be i hunt mobs a lot higher then me, but, never seen a kd. I set my doid to guard rock beetle too, but, mostly because i have conflicting reports about droids and perma death.

I think the probot armor is a little buggy. My probot tanked 2 bobcatts for over a minute once, andgot destroyed by 1 scyk 30 mins later.

Pets can be buffed/healed, and I think the rock beetle has a stun and posture change attack.

But I don't know any pets with a craft station, or medical module.

How's that for a ramble!!

You guys are forgetting one small thing. You can heal a pet, you cannot heal a probot. Basically what that means is after any sort of fight, your probot has to sit and recharge its health. However you can heal your rock beatle or cowardly gurrek with stims.

That makes all the difference.

And let break down a droids regen, which is 5 points every 18 seconds while out, higher while stored but unsure of exact numbers. If you want to have a droid out and have it regen 300 points, about average after a fight or 2 depending on mobs, then you would have to wait 18 mins for droid to get to full health.

Even if you dont let pet regen for a fight or 2, eventually you will have to sit and wait for droid to regen 3-500 health to be effective again. Thats 18 to 30 mins to wait for your droid to regen if its out. Not a fun way to spend time.

Grrowl:

Because You cannot heal a droid in combat. That rock beetle of yours can tank a rancor if you have pet stims with you (which incidentally, are made so those without medical skills can use them, so yes, you with no novice medic skill can buy a pet StimC and heal your pet for 600 damage a whack)

Because the rock beetle does a busload more damage than the probot will ever do. So in paper, the probot fares better in your example, in reality, the rock beetle plus your shooting the mob will bring down your target much faster than you and the probot's firepower would ever do... thus meaning the creature your rock beetle is tanking will not have the chance to get so many hits on your bug.

Now if you just need your pet to take a few hits while you kill, then theres NO difference between a the HIGHEST droid a DE can make and the LOWEST pet types there are (lev 15 and under).

See the problem there?

that's simple, any pet other than droid can be healed. stop doing the math and see the big picture, with a case of pet stim, any CL15 can take damage better than whatever probot you can make, because you can just keep healing it until the mob dies.

Yeah this is all too true about droids and pets. My friend Bio-Engineer gave me a pet stim with 27 charges, +861 HAM! My beetle can tank anything! I just heal it a few times with my stims.

Incidentally, he sells the stims faster than he can make them and clears probably 50k on them per day.

This game centers around pets.

Why replace when you can use both? I would probably make your Rock Beetle tank until the devs finish with the new healing system for droids. After that the droid will be just as good if not better than the Rock Beetle however the Beetle should tank because teh Probot might get one shotted and you not be able to heal it in time.

Thanks for all the replies. Guess it is just my style of pve that makes them the same to me. I don't tend to stand there and be a pet healer (if I wanted that, i would have made a doctor:]). Guess my question has been answered though.

Rock beetles are not nearly the best non-CH pet. That would be a cowardly Gurreck, which has 50% more HAM.

If you are interested in comparisons, check out the thread in my .sig.
