There is one simple answer to everyone's question about why the new colour doesnt always stick on the first paint... the very first "white" colour option is bugged.

Try it out for yourself .. select the frame as the very first white colour in the tool, and it will not stick. Use the next one along which looks slightly more grey in the tool but comes out just as white on the droid.

Just thought I'd let you all know about this, since it has personaly cost me many moments of anger and the loss of many crafting tools.

Maybe that particular white color block is supposed to be "surprise me".

anger and frustration... come on how can you not laugh at the silly colours and stuff... I think it rocks!!! heh.

Bzzt. Wrong answer. I attempted to color an R-series (R2, as I recall)droid the other day using red for the body and black for the trim and it failed to stick. I have tried many other color combinations that do not involve white as well, and all of those have failed to stick.

I made an attempt on a pre-patchR4 with black/red. It would not hold the color.

I have not yet attempted to color any new droids.

Pre-patch surgical had no problems with color. In fact, blue with white trim looks darn good on them.

I was able to get that white to stick on my R2 (after many tries). I think I know why...

It is the manner in which you store it.

If I use the radial menu to store it (after the white frame is applied), it tends not to stick. When I use a programmed chat command, it does.

I was testing this one out earlier, and it seems that if you also storethe Droidfrom the Datapad, the first white box will stick everytime that I tested it out.

Are you sure? The color on my pre-patch treadwell doesnt stick

I think the point is... if someone wants a pre-patch droid coloured, let them know it doesnt work and try to convince them to do a trade-in deal. They give you their old droid and a get new one half the price or something.

As its already been stated, some pre-patch droids DO paint. However, R-series and powerbot do not retain the colours.

You can tell in one glance if an R-series is pre-patch by its colours. This how:

A post-patch droid (unpainted) randomly changes frame and trim colour each time it is called. So if the droid is multi-coloured then its a post-patch

A pre-patch droid (unpainted) keeps the dark-grey frame and the following trim depending on the type:
R5/R4/R3 - white trim
R2- red trim

So thats how you know.

Also, on a further note about fading colours:

I've had an R2 droid that built and painted on saturday morning. Apart from sunday and monday, I have had that droid called 24/7 .. its been called and stored *WAY* over 40 times and has been recharged even MORE times! This droid HAS NOT given me a single "colour faded" message, nor has the colour faded.

This means the rumour about colourisation only lasting 24 hours is FALSE. None of the droids I have built and paited since saturday have faded. None of the droids I have coloured since last thursday have faded. In short, I have no idea how long this fade lasts or even if it works.. but it certainly lasts longer than 49 hours.

Only one droid that I have painted for someone has started giving a "colour has faded" message, and that was for an ADV Surgical that I painted on thursday last week. That droid, according to the user, has been called every single day since and has been repeatedly called and stored (more than 20 times). The colour still hasnt faded even though it has started giving the "colour faded" message. So thats way over 64 hours.
