Thread: combat droids --- Rumors? Speculation? Possibilities?

I am a 2-2-2-4 CH who has decided to give up CH and become a TKA/Doc. I will be giving up my CH skills, but like the idea of having a fighting buddy. If nothing else, having a permanent group, allows me to get better missions. Right now I am planning to train a couple of non-CH pets to keep with me once I give up the CH skills. CHs seem to be very jealous of their skills. Many of them really resent non-CHs using live pets.

Back when probots were so strong, I never had the cash to buy one, so I have no idea how good they really were. I understand that right now, the are pretty usless. I was just wondering if there is any reason to hope that DEs will eventually be able to make combat droids that are as useful as the non-CH pets. I am in no way attatched to live pets, I would be just as happy with a droid. In fact if they were as useful, I would be happier with a droid. It just seems to fit the story line better.

I read through the first 3 pages of posts on the forum, and didn't see much. I have tried the search function in the past and it is pretty much usless. If anyone has heard anything to give me a glimmer of hope, I would appreciate hearing about it. If the news is all bad, it would be good to know that too.

Thanks for your help.

I guess it's good that you dont mind bad news then. Only after "Mounts", "Player Cities", and "Vehicles" will our developer be able to get back to working on our profession. If you are patient enough to wait about a year, we might, just might, be able to make some bot that can stand toe to toe with a spineflap.

Current Probots are easily as useful as non-CH pets, but they serve a different role. As long as you understand that and use both Probots and non-CH pets in the roles where they excel, you will find that you want both.

Probots are tanks. They exist to absorb damage. A fully armored (medium, 40% resists) Advanced Probot may only have 820 HAM, but that is the equivalent of nearly 5500 on an unarmored pet like a Cowardly Gurreck.

On the flip side, Probots do jack for damage. That's where your non-CH pet comes in. The pet can't tank like a Probot can, but it likely does 3 times the damage (if not more).

So the proper way to engage in a fight is to send the Probot in first. Get the creature attacking the Probot with its meaty armor, then send in your pet. Once both the Probot and pet are engaged, join the fight yourself.

IF and WHEN DE gains the ability to build combat droids they will work just the same as high-level CH pets. In other words, you can only use them if you have the right certs. As to what professions will get those certs? Its likely that the devs will make a new one.

Put basicaly... even if we COULD build them, you wouldn't be able to use them. Chances are, non-cert combat droids will be the ones we currently have... DZ70 and Probot... and they will likely be as strong as they are now (or should that be weak?)
