Thread: Some ideas on how to tweak some current droids
1. The Power Droid SHOULD NOT EVER NEED BATTERIES. The smart guy who thought of this needs to be fired. They're used to power small homesteads and even Small Starships. They could also be assigned as a crude powersource for Harvesters, but as a penalty, your harvesters should turn on-and-off between charges.
2. The Seeker droids should be changed to find any player friends you're looking for. This would be good for last-minute arrivals to find their friend's hunting party.
3. R units should vary in Power Consumption: An R2 unit should barely ever need to recharge under normal conditions. R3's should require a fair amount of chargning. R4's more, but still normal charging. R5 units should use the most power and require a battery a few times a session.
4. 2-1B Droids should have healing skills akin to a Medic using /tendwound. Current PvE 2-1B's should not deathblow and only have melee attacks.
5. If the Seeker change is too much, have Probots be able to do it.
interesting but a R3 is superior to a pathetic R2 any day of the week...
an R3 has 2 identical advanced brains.. working together like two processors
and a R2 has one..

Oh really? Didn't know. Could only afford an R5 unit at the time Droids were still in demand for RP purposes.
Wait a minute, how is that possible? For that Matter, why does an R5 schematic cost more FP than an R2 schematic at a Recruiter? I thought the R droids got better as their number got lower...

Oh really? Didn't know. Could only afford an R5 unit at the time Droids were still in demand for RP purposes.
The Progression of the R Series of Droid is in this order. R1, R2, R3, R4, and R5.
AnR1 can be seen as the large cylidrical blackish Droid in the back ground of Episode 4 during the scene where Luke and Uncle Owen are purchasing the Droids from the Jawa.
R2s where first built before Episode 1. They gained huge popularity and could be found all over the Galaxy.
The R3 Series were introduced a few years later after the R2 Series and were more expensive than the R2, due to the extensive electronics package that was needed. The R3 series didn't sell very well, due it being a lot more expensive than the R2 with not that much icrease in function.
The R4 was a Cheap knock-off of the R2, that shortly followed shortly after the R3 Series. It was created in hopes of bring the R Series back into the public eye, with a low costdroid that would be bought by the masses. Unfortunately, the R4 series was exactly what it was supposed to be......A cheap knock-off of an R2 unit.
The R5 Unit is the 'newest' the the R Series. Its production was shortly lived due to some major issues in the electronical systems (This Droid has a bad Motivator).
All of this info comes from a book on Droids that I read a few years ago. I can't seem to find the book, but I believe that it was something produced for the Star Wars RPG by either Wizards, or WEG (West End Games).
So, if the DEVs are following information from a source such as this, then the R5 unit costiing more FP is 100% correct do to the ability to find R2 units spread throughout the galaxy, While the R5 unit is still considered a 'rarity'.Other than that, your guess is good as mine. Kind of like 'What's with the Advanced Binary Load Lifter?'

Ironically, the Jedi Order's R4 units are downright cool.

My thoughts on this are that the R1 is too old to be a viable droid for a begining novice. The Star Wars time line is pretty loose on setting production dates for much of the technology. Look at the approximate age of the Droids. We can see that C-3PO is just being built as of Episode 1, but how long has R2-D2 been around? From what I've read, the R1 series was around for a long time before the R2 series was made. The problem is figuring out how long of a time a long time is.....
This is specutaltion on my part, but I believe that the R2 series was first produced about 20-40 years before Episode 1, at the very least. I would guess that the R1 series started production at least 40-100 years prior to that. Many will make a statement such as this 'Why would it take so long to upgrade from the R1 to the R2?'. The answer I found came for an SWRPG source that stated something to the effect of this....The technology in such a large universe will progess slower on the over all scale, then it would in a specific region. The number of worlds that are technolgically advanced compared to the number of worlds that are not are vastly disporportionate. Most worlds are that are discovered are in the steel age or less.
So, with this being said, if the R2 series is thought to be old at this point in the Star Wars time line what would be the 'perception' of the R1 series. If DEs were to offer the R1 series droid, I think it would be as a Master and would use lower end droid parts, but in mass numbers.
