Thread: Sodan's Bullet Point List of How to Fix the DE Profession
Sodan-droiddreamer wrote:
It's simple:1. Fix all bugs. Drashk maintains the list which is stickied. We'll provide exhaustive "repeatable" steps for bug tracking purposes. This includes making experimentation matter
2. Introduce Combat Droids. Could be done via Droid Handler profession or certifications like the certifications for bomb droids. Or even allowing Droid Engineers to control higher level droids being that they would be one of the few people in-game to understand droids.
3. Introduce New DE markets.
3a. Allow Droid Engineers to creat several cybernetics that would act like clothing. Nothing modified, just for show. That market would be crawling with people who want to look like Genreal Grievous. Or even allow special shematics to be dropped in certain areas for DEs to craft skill modifing cybernetics like those found on Kashyyk. Note: All of these cybernetics would have to be put on via the person on the second floor of the medical center or Master Doctors.
3b. Allow DE to craft droids to be used to make Player Cities more like the NPC cities. This droids would simply walk/roll around town, making the place seem more active. Other professions may also help in making Player Cities appear more active.Follow steps FTW.Message Edited by Sodan-droiddreamer on 08-12-2005 12:57 PM

God Sodan, we have been beating this dead horse for, what, 2 years now?
Droidekas droidekas droidekas... how hard is it for us to get these damn things!
I am glad you are still rallying the cause. Keep up the good fight! ![]()

1. Fix the profession. Overhaul DE even more than you did CH, and separate droids from their status as "pets" and make them tools or weapons, make experimentation matter, quality of resources matter, etc. Take the bugs out in the process.
2. Introduce Combat Level Droids. Don't half-arse this, give us the ability to craft combat droids that pack a real punch. Introduce a new profession that incorporates CL54-CL80 droids with cybernetics (New content! People *love* new content!)
3. Introduce New DE markets. Why the heck can't DE's make cyber arms or AI droids that can shoot POB ship turrent guns??
Follow steps FTW.

It's easy to pursue a cause when you're right. I've been looking at the Star Wars D20 "paper and pencil" game, and crafting Droidekas is not out of the question.
How to introduce them in this game in a balances manner is the real question, but I think it can be done. And I don't buy that no free checkers crap. There's been plenty of checkers such as bomb droids and BH missions. There is more than one way to do it, but it should be done.
ghaah, you have been truely turned to the dark side my friend. WoTC's version is like the CU to galaxies. dont get me wrong its the current one out and will have expantions and suplements for it, but it does not even come close to the original WEG's version. all they did was take DnD (which i dont have a prob with

) and put a star wars theme to it. This was done becase WoTC got the licence for Star Wars right after they were finishing up the 3rd edition DnD, sothey just took theDnD rules and put a Starwars theme to it.
sorry whenever i see Star Wars and D20 in same sentance it gets me upset.

/shifty Indeed we are... and yes, the D6 game does kick ass (heading off to gencon wednesday to get 4 days of it into my system).
Back on topic though, The bug list definately needs to be cut down to size before any new features are added... building new features on top of a buggy set of core features is a bad thing.

I agree 100% that they should fix the bugs but honestly how long have some items stayed on Gorantoth/Centralized Droid List?
There are bugs on there that will never see the light of a programmer's monitor screen. Even with the amazing organization, hard work, and detail that you and many other droid engineers have compiled, droids seem hopelessly pushed to the side by the developers.
Sometimes I think the only way we can get the old stuff fixed is if they give us new stuff and revamp the old stuff into a completely different set of code. I hope I am wrong but jeez how long does it take to fix some of these know issues?
Example: How long have we been unable to name surgical droids? It was around August of 2003 cause I remember selling several before they got "fixed" to use converse instead of program. That was around the time they alsotook out the incredibly cool personnality chip feature. For those of us around to remember that, the chips did more than just change the text in the converse window. Miss my R2s sarcastic personnality...
It can definitely be frustrating to be a droid engineer...
