a friend recently left the game, so I took over his account ...

I wanted to be a DE ... so that is what I am making him...and know nothing about anything.

From what I can tell, it would be beneficial for me to do:

Master Artisan, Master DE, Master Merchant, Novice Architect (For Power Cores)

(And Novice Weaponsmith/Novice Armorsmith to help my main toon)

Is this correct? Am I missing anything?

What do I need to know (preferably focusing on differences from Smuggler to DE from those of you that have been a Smuggler). I know very little about 'real crafting' (Smugglers don't craft...we just make some stuff).

Whilst I can't remember exactly what level it is, you need to be more than Novice Architect for Power Cores. The Novice can make Light Power Cores and they just don't cut the mustard in the Droid world (you can't use them...)

You need housing 1 to make power core units

I wouldn't bother with the Archi to be honest: I've advertised, and had 5 power droids on my vendor for some time, and the only guy who bought one was an old guildie who wanted the 'gonk' noise. Find a local architect and get them to run a factory run for you: you'll need all your crafting time for the myriad of DE sub-components.

My main's a master Artisan/DE/Merchant like you mentioned above, and I've also got novice AS and WS (my alt's also grinding through Smuggler to keep) so I can take care of the WUK/AUK needs. He's still got Rifle IV and Support II, so he's not completely useless in a fight.

I'd considered dropping most of Merchant and Rifle, and trying to grind out another profession to keep, but when running 16 fusions over two accounts, maintenance reduction is rather nice. That, and the other perks of merchant (global ads, tent if I need it, more than a buggy box vendor, etc) make it worth it.

Good luck with it

there are some odd reasons people buy stuff but as long as they buy

The reason I was thinking of doing it myself is because that way I don't need to look for someone else ... and Geevo (my Primary) I can have fun with. My other challenge I see is finding resources... (at least high quality resources).

How important is the experimentation? Resource Quality? I understand for combat droids ... it can be quite important ... what about for utilities?
