Thread: You tripped over that metal object in the ground!

A lonely Ranger is tracking his way across Naboo.

Suddenly he trips over something in the ground. Apon further Inspection he notice's to me a metal object. He then digs it out only to discover it is a battle Droid from the battle of naboo when the trade federation took control of the planet.

The Ranger recovers the Droid and take it to a local Droid Engineer to see if anything can be done with it.

Luckly the Droid only needs a few Minor repairs.

After the Droid Engineer repairs the Droid for a set price he tells the Ranger "careful with that thing I won't beable to fix it if it breaks again."

Ok here is my idea.

Have broken Battle droids SBD and droidake's be randomly spawned around the galaxy. As a small object in the ground. Eaisly missed by someone traveling on a Speeder and not on a Radar.

If someone finds this droid they can bring it to a DE the DE can then see if it can be repaired if not he can salvage parts from it incase someone else brings it a droid that needs those parts to work.

I think it would be a cool way to Interduce these types of droids to the game and make them sort of rare. Maybe even allow DE's to use a scanner... only on foot that can scan a area like a survey tool for these droids.

Once a Droid is destoryed it can not be repaired by a DE or parted.

Any feedback is much Appreciated

What a fun idea. I like it, it would give some more content to game and maybe even the droid could send the finder on some sort of mini quest or mission. Making it something you find and not loot would keep them rare but i do not think it should be able to be scanned for. That would just lead t osome farming them.

it's cool content like this that I hope to see added in the game. SWG is already the deepest MMORPG on the market <I've played most of them>. But little surprises like this would just add to the game and keep people playing.

It's an awesome idea. Great idea for content and reward. But I know what the devs will say: "What balances it out?" I'm not sure if perma-death will be enough...

To play a bit of devil's advocate:

Problem comes in that people play on a variety of different graphic settings. In particular, players with the graphic setting all the way up have a lot of incidental graphics on the screen. Like on corellia, there is a lot of tall grass everywhere (try jacking up all those slide bars and clicking on all the options one day... you would be amazed at what non-essential items the Devs put out there). Those people would miss the droids entirely cuz they have a better computer.

It is an awesome idea though, and I like it... we would need to refine it a little bit more, but I like the basics!

lol...I had to ponder this response for a bit to understand what you were talking about. I think the point was introducing a battle droid quest into the game, not necessarily searching for it through the tall grass.

Implement it as an "Event Message" similar to what happens sometimes during resource sampling.

You could get a message while travelling, like:

As you speed across the landscape, a flash in the distance catches your eye,

like sunlight off of metal

Investigate further

Continue on your way

If you investigate, you get a waypoint, and at the waypoint is a "droid in the ground" graphic. Double clicking on it would open the container where you could get the "damaged droid" body that you would take to a DE. You could also have a critter at the site (the old droid body is its den) or NPC MOB's there to recover the droid themselves.

Once the DE has the "damaged droid" he can reverse engineer it to receive one-time schematics for the droid chassis, components and the like.

Now THAT is a good refined idea! It eliminates the differences in graphic engines! Plus it is along the lines of the current in-game technology. They can utilize some of their in-game programming to create this! Perhaps people will have to use a METAL DETECTOR survey tool (not a mineral resource, but a metal detector survey tool). People could get some junk loot and be searching around for stuff and BAM, they get that "You found something unique!" Perhaps it could be keyed to certain high-end weaponry or other machinery items. This has the potential of a great idea for more than just Droid Engineers.

It is kinda like Fishing in Ultima Online (some of you remember that MMORPG). Where you hunt for that special loot. It was an alternative way to find the loot than just killing creatures for it or crafting it. This will allow us crafters have the ability to go out and find some loot. I would make it a very low chance.

But I am all for this idea. 5 stars for posters today

Yeah, there's lots of fun stuff they could do with this. I wonder if a good balance tool would be to have the person questing for this battle droid have to buy some new skills (like four) in order to complete the quest and use it. Have it branch off from a basic profession, like scout. That way people are using skill points to get "certified" to use the droid.
