Thread: Viability of DEs in the PvP system

I am about to become a Novice DE. The point of going DE was so that I could have a droid do all the fighting in PvE and PvP situations. My question is pretty simple, is this a viable thing to do? Should I take another route?
I am thinking of staying Artisan: Engi IV, Artisan: Survey IV. I might raise my Merchant up as well. Then I was thinkng of goind DE and Arch...
What are the ups and downs of this?
Also, if you know anything about the Jedi line, can I be DE and Arch and still be a potent jedi fighter?

DE are the one that build the droids.
You don't have to be a DE to use combat droids.
Everybody can.
For the moment, being a DE without being a Master Artisan is a pain.
Loads of droid componement are MA parts.
Is it viable to use only droid in PvE and PvP?
Simple answer : no.
In PvE, a probot alone can deal with low to medium level mobs at max, and not too much at once.
In PvP a Probot last about 1.2 seconds before going down.
For the Jedi, being a master Jedi highest level whatever require 250 skill points, so at max it is Jedi and nothing else.
Beside, if you're not already a Jedi, don't expect to become one before at least a couple of months. It is not possible right now. You'll need to do qurests that will only appear in the next publish and that are supposed to take 3 month to finish.
I suggest you have a look at some SWG character builder to find out what's doable and what's not.

The only Droid that is viable in PVP is the detonation droid, you need novice smuggler or bounty hunter to use them.
If you just want to USE droids, don't go DE. Only do that is you want to MAKE droids.
Perhaps the possibly coming Droid Commander will be what you want.
