Thread: Suggestion for new (entertainer) droid module: Stage Spotlight

Hi! Hi!

One of the things that frustrates me about entertaining is how dark many of the venues (cantinas) are. I often hang out now in one of the side-alcloves of the cantinas next to one of the few (non-ambient) light sources in the cantina. This got me thinking about a new droid module that I'd like to see: a Stage/Theatre Spotlight (for lack of a better name).

This module would be a focused lightsource, kind of like theatre spotlights are for highlighting the person that is currently the focus of the show in a performance you might attend in real life. As such, the droid module would have at least these two options: 1) set focus (to the currently targeted person) and 2) toggle light on/off. A nice third option would be to set a colour filter, so that more than just a white light source is available. As a forth option, a light intensity (dark->bright) or maybe integrate the intensity into the on/off option rather than making that a toggle.

*Extra Special Bonus*: Make all these things have a /command for them so they can be scripted in a macro as part of a performance. (Particularly the set focus command so that the droid can highlight different people as they have their solos, etc.)

Then, I could place the droid a bit in front of me (or the group), tell it to 'stay', go to where I want to perform, tell it to focus on me (or someone else if performing in a troupe/band) and have it turn the light on.

Any thoughts on this? And what is the way to get new ideas to the devs, anyway? Have the correspondant propose the idea to them if enough people thing it is worthwhile?

Thanks!
Sel

Being an ex-dancer, I definitely know what you mean!

Sounds like a good idea... At present, we have 6 SFX modules which fits perfectly into a R3 (I don't count the playback module as SFX). Given this 7th module, the buyer will need to figure out which one to keep or which to toss out.

Also, might come in handy for places like Dathomir in the middle of the night (day!?) when in a camp... A beacon to help home in on ...

Ah yes, I forgot to say I would very much like this to also work outdoors so it can be used for night shows, or on planets like Dath if you are so inclined...

Thanks so much for postinga link to this thread in the Entertainer forums... never would have seen this if you hadn't.

I would really love something like this. I've disliked the dismal lighting in cantinas andhotels for... oh, about forever, and have been wishing for some other option than using my ctrl+L personal light just to see in those dingy dives. Ack... once you've really worked at being a performer, it's almost insulting to still have to work in those conditions.

One of the things that I don't like about those gorgeous static city theatres is that the stage areas is perpetually lit in the style of an inactive theatre - that low lighting that shows disuse. In order to really have the opportunity for great performances in these beautiful venues, we'd have to have better stagelighting. If droids could do the trick more easily than some kind of light-board addition to the theatres themselves, I'd be all for it!

/cheer for better stage lighting!
