Ok, here is a proposal, mainly based on Drashk's Decay proposal, Binding droid to house thread, other ideas I've sen all over the forum, and some I think I had myself (Yes, it does happen).
First, I think we all agree that we would like to see a droid decay system based on power use.
Still no info from the DEV to know if it's even technicaly and balance-wise doable. But we'll assume it's ok for them.
I also think that basing this decay on lost of vitality is a good idea. Vitality is already here, let's try to use it.
So, the power usage on the droid will lower the droid vitality, and vitality will work as it does now. Meaning lowering HAM, but not lowering power usage.
That would make things more easy to balance.
Droid restoration kit from Drashk's proposal, first I was against that, but now, I think they should be there, but not make it so that a droid will last 6 month online before needing to replace.
I don't know how exactly does the curent vitality system work, but I think that the dev know it well enough to have that balanced.
On the power source :
Currently, there are 2 source of power for droids : Batteries and Power droid.
I think we should add a new one based on the Droid Power Generator from Drashk's proposal, but, here is how I see it :
Instead of being crafted by DE, it is crafter by Architects. (don't yell at reapeat business yet, more to come).
The idea would be that either it is a component of a Droid recharging station (a furniture), or some kind of "Ammo" for such station.
This would bring repeat business to architect (they need it more than us really, we have BH/BOOM/survey droid, they have candles, and we still have repeat business from decay, and maybe sub-component)
The schematic proposed by Drashk could stay as it is, it only require novice DE to make the DE parts, so Architect could either use the skill points, or buy them form a DE, or be modified to avoid too much dependency.
Also, experiment only on charge number, not duration of the charge.
If the Station with ammo is accepted, it could be the basis to do the binding droid to house idea.
And as it is furniture, it could be used in ships from JTL.
Now, with this idea, everybody could own one of those station in his house, and use it to recharge his own droid.
And, some specific professions (DE or merchant) could make them public, so everyone can use them to recharge his droid, for a small fee (that's where repeat business come back).
We might also have an outdoor public station managed by politician for player cities.
For the decay part :
Keep in mind numbers might need adjustment for balance issue, but here is how I see it :
Each use of a station to recharge a droid with recharge it 10 times more than a regular battery, and will take 1 vitality out of the droid. (With current battery, that mean recharge at station = 10 hour power).
Batteries as we know them would stay as they are with 1 change : They take vitality out of the droid too, the speed at witch they take vitality out of the droid will be twice faster than a station. Meaning 5 battery charges = 5 hours power = 1 vitality point.
This way, people can recharge their droids at a station, and keep some batteries to avoid being stuck without power in the wild. Batteries would be some kind of emergency power source.
Now, the Power Droid : First, it doesn't need batteries, that's just pointless.
He can recharges other droids, with the same charge as a battery, but, with the decay rate of a station. Mean he can charge droid for 1 hour and 10 charge = 1 vitality lost. Beside, the power droid itself would lost 1 vitality every 5 chrage it does.
This way, not only the power droid become usefull, but it also become interesting to bring it in a group hunt with droids.
Doing some maths, I think my numbers are a little too high, and should be lowered, but you get the main idea.
So, short version is :
Adapt power usage so it take vitality out of the droid (with diferent rate depending of the power source).
Create the new power station.
Adapt the current power droid.
Dunno how much work load it can be.
What do you think?
Edit : sorry for the layout, Not using IE protect me against security issues, but doesn't help alot on layout of post.
