Thread: Droid solution going at it wrong?
Hey guys, I'm not a DE but I've been dying for droids to have more influence in this game and get rid of the freaking zoo we have now. I've quickly read through the DE planned changes and the state of affairs now. It seems that these changes are nice but it's not getting at the heart of the problem.
In order to make droids as pervasive as they were in the movies (droids every where), they need to work for more folks than docs, BHs, and the occasional fighter and crafter. The way to do this, I believe, is to have droids augment and add to the skills a player has. I mean give the player a skill that they can't have otherwise without the droid. This is similar to the tracking capability a BH has by using the droid, they can't really do it without it (from my understanding of it). Or at least enhance a currently possessed skill. The possibilities here are endless. For example, I'd love to be able to give up some of my Surveying skills if I could have a droid enhance boost what low level skill I did have. Give the player some incentive to have and use a droid (couple of valuable skill pts) and give it real functionality.
Another idea for the elite crafting professions is to enable the droids as a REAL part of a genuine workshop. Have certain droids or droid modules REQUIRED to make particular high level items, along with the crafting stations. Truely, what "workshop" has 1 tool required to make stuff with??? Droids should be an integral and required part of all the elite crafting professions, wether it's remote crafting or it's in your shop. I want to walk into my workshop or room and see droids milling around working.
Anyway, just my 2 cents worth. Oh yeah, what's this I hear about combat capabilities being added to every droid? Hope it's not true because it just seems stupid to arm a Protocol droid (hence the name). Rather than add stupid stuff to the existing droids, more droids need to be added and the way they're used need to be rethought.
