Thread: Elite-Elite DE?
I know we need some hope to cling to, but before I start thinking about what I'd like to see in a second DE profession, I'd like to have more assurance that it's actually going to happen than speculation from some random forum regular.
Don't get me wrong. I'd love to see this happen. I'd be all over it. I'm just naturally skeptical.
Isn't it bad enough that we have to be Master Artisans to even make half the droids in the blueprints tree?
Master Artisan - Master Droid Engineer - Master Elite-Droid-Whatever...
Oh goodie! Enough points left for me to poke you with a stick... and fall on it myself!
Honestly, I hope it'll never come to an elite droid engineer profession. Make the existing one useful instead.
No dev has ever come out and said or even publicly speculated that there will be an elite-elite DE. I'm pretty sure this got started by a couple forum regulars who read it in their Tarot cards one night without the actual data to back the idea up.
That's not to say it will or won't happen, but until I hear it from Holo or Q or one of the other devs, as far as I'm concerned it isn't happening.
The other posters to this thread are correct. There has been no specific mention of an elite-elite DE profession. However, the developers stated that there would be quite a few more elite-elite professions then the ones they mentioned. So, suggesting that it is likely that there will be an elite-elite DE profession at some future date is not unreasonable. I think it is more likely to occur then not.
Anyways, to answer one of the other thread questions, the developers said there would NOT be more points added for these. The only thing they are considering more points for is the space expansion which they said is likely to have it's own points system.
I really dont see what they could fill another tree with any any Elite-Elite DE profession anyway (without making it really superficial like the Business line and the Merchant tree)
As it is if you wish to make and sell droids without anyones help you needto specialize quite a bit..
- Master Artisan
- Master DE
- Architect (1 skill beyond novice)
- Armorsmith (4 skills beyond novice)
- Master Merchant (Optional)
--Dolomite
Branch one - Offensive Ordinance Systems
Branch two - Defensive counter measures (though this might be tricky since armor VI is available in the DE tree)
Branch three - Combat droid refinement
Branch four - Combat droid chassis
Alternately, the first two branches could be energy weapon systems and projectile weapon systems.
That said, I'm ambivalent to the idea of an elite-elite tree. On the one hand I like having a little music skill to fool around with, scouting skill to help me cover terrain, a smattering of marksman and brawler to defend myself as I travel, a block of architect so I can build power cores, and a few blocks of merchant so I can get planetary advertising. On the other, if it becomes an actual elite-elite class there will be fewer people in it, meaning less competition, and the droids will probably be considerably better.
Supposedly we have enough skill points to master three and a half trees. Master Droid Engineer-Master Artisan-Master Elite-Elite Droid Engineer still leaves me with half a tree. Add the fact that the devs have said that the elite-elite trees are not going to take as many skill points as an ordinary tree and maybe I can get three quarters of a fourth tree instead.
In the end would I be bummed at having to become 'one dimensional' to be a master of the elite-elite tree? Yeah, a bit, but by the same token I don't see that as being a whole lot different from what Bounty Hunters have to go through.

The devs don't want people to be completely self-sufficient. You're suppose to need other people to help you out with some of the finer points of your craft. Originally the design called for players to actually lose schematics as they got higher up the tree, forcing them to go to lower level characters to get some of the components they needed.
Players hated this and it was pretty unnatural (I've gotten better so I've forgotten how to do the easy stuff) so it got removed, but the idea still remains that 'no man is an island'.
A first I was all for the potential elite-elite. But that was back when I was still working up towards master and all gung-ho about droids. Now after a few weeks of NOT grinding and playing around with other skills, I really don't want this since it will gimp what I already have accomplished.
The only way I would like such a thing, is if it were something other than just more driod schematics. Something like the vehicles or spacecraft. Than it would be something worth dumping my hobby skills for.
After-all, It you are a Master DE, you should be able to make any driod, no matter what type it is. Keep the droids where they belong...

Just to play the Devil's Advocate, it won't gimp what you have. People always assume life is a Zero-sum game and that if someone learns to do something better they do what they are doing worse. Unless they actually pull schematics (something I really doubt they will do) then anything you are able to do right now you will be able to do tomorrow (assuming it's not a bug). Your probots and medical droids will be every bit as good if an Elite-Elite DE class rolls out. Maybe your probots won't stack up against the new uber combat droids, but they will probably also cost a lot more and take a lot more work to make.

Except it's already being established that Master Architects won't be able to build any building. For the civic buildings you are going to have to be an Urban Planner (or whatever it is they are calling it).
The other thing I'd like to point out is that they have been promising new combat droids to DE's for a little while now. They didn't say that there were going to be new combat droids for an elite-DE class, not has there been anything from the devs about an elite-DE class. All of this has been speculation from players.
What that says to me is that says to me is that the new combat droids are most likely going to be DE droids. Assuming that a new elite-DE class is eventually created for combat droids, it will most likely contain combat droids that are a significant step up from the combat droids they are going to be offering DEs (probably on the general neighborhood of an AT-ST in terms of ability, though I suspect a bit weaker since the AT-ST seems a bit overpowered).
Personally I see nothing wrong with doing it this way. Your elite class gets decent droids to sell (approximating what a CH, another elite class, can sell with adjustments made for the difference between the classes) so that the two elite classes are on a more even footing. An Elite-Elite class is created which can create massive firepower droids but with the drawbacks of lots of resource (probably like making a PA hall) and the fact that it takes the majority of your skill points.
