Since you guys are the pros at it and all.

I'm a smuggler/pistoleer, looking to get a droid. But the question is..why would I want one? What features would I want?

I don't want one for combat, and I don't need medical supplies or healing. The special effects they do look pretty neat, and I might want that just for comedic value. I also heard they can play music?

Someone help me out here. Lol.

If those are your only skills, here is what you can use :

Combat droid. Damage dealer or tank.
Crafting station (not sure it does have a use for spice)
10 item storage.
BOOM droid (1 use droid that does alot of damage).

That's pretty much it.

So, you can use one because one of those is fun for you.

Or to group when hunting so oyu get XP bonus.

Beside that, looks cool.

I'd say play with bomb droids, since you are a smuggler. BHs get the most fun from these cuz they can initiate combat with them on a Jedi (and the Jedi don't like it at all).

For smugglers, these things might be fun PvE, but at roughly 6k/bomb its an expensive habit. I suppose you could use it in PvP, but if it gets too close to your target before detonating it can be easily destroyed (it only has 50hp) I'm sure there's a technique for using them successfully. its a quick 1500-1700 pts of damage to your PvP target so why not?

As far as a permanent droid goes, smugglers seem to like a droid with storage and maybe some combat/autorepair for tanking.

Alright, not that bad an idea. So I should basically ask a Droid Engineer..

'Can you make a combat droid tank/autorepair w/ storage and a food/chemical station?'

Lol, that's all I can really understand out of all this. And do the types matter (R2, R5, etc.)

The answer will be yes.

Droids work like that : you have chassis and module.
Chassis determine the speed, if the droid can fight, the droid HAM, and if he can partially what damage he can do.

An R2,3,4,5 will do lower damage than a probot but will have a higher ham, it'll also do melee and ranged.
A probot will only do ranged damage, will have lower HAM but deal more damage.
An LE will do only melee, very low damage and have the highest HAM.

It also determine the number of modules you can put in it.

An MSE for exemple, can only have 1 module.
An Adv R3 can have 6.

Beside that, some modules do stacks others don't.
This mean, if you put 6 combat module in an R3 it'll do more damage than if you put 1 combat module.
But, if you put one 10 Item storage module or 6 of them in an Adv R3 you'll still only be able to store 10 items in it.

Depending of oyur fighting style, I would recommand 2 or 3 droids.

One droid with crafting station + 10 item storage.
One damage dealer(filled with combat module)
And/Or A tank (filled with auto-repair and 1 combat module if needed).

To make a tank, best way is auto-repair module, and they do stack. Some of the chassis also need 1 combat module for them to be combat capable and so become tank. Without it, they'll just runaway.

But technicaly, you could have for exemple an R3 with 10 item storage, crafting station 1 combat module and 3 auto-repair.

He won't do much damage, he will be +/- ok tank on low to medium low mobs, and have some utility.
