Thread: Can someone explain how materials effect Experimentation pnt allocation?

Hi guys,

I am still a noob crafter/DE so be gentle. When making items I usually use material in my stock that gives me the highest green bar (and thus matches the oq/cd etc weigthings). For a particular build I found that I was only being allowed to put 3 pnts into effectiveness experimentation. This was repeatble. Each time I could only use 3 pts. Then I changed material to one with less quality (a lower yellow bar) and I found that I could dump 9 pnts into effectiveness experimentation and thus I could make a better item overall.

Can someone explain how the maximum pnts allowed between durability, effecticness, or quality gets determined?

thanks!

What were you trying to craft?
In the right hand pane of the crafting window, the details of the schematic will tell you what stats are important (and how important each of those is).

Typically for DE it is 50% Con, 50% OQ. But not always.

That I know. But I noticed that I was able to allocate more experiment points into effectiveness (the only line that seems to do anything according to the de FAQ) with crappier material. Thus, the overall result was more effectiveness experimentation permitted with the worst material which resulted in a better droid than when I was using better material but getting fewer experiement pnts allowed in effectiveness.

thanks for the help though!

Yes, but what were you trying to make?

And what were the actual stats (all of them) of the materials?

In this case an Advanced Power droid. Ill have to check on what the stats were.

I was assuming that the bar in the material selection window while crafting was a good indication of the material quality for the object you are creating.

But Ill post later with the material details. Thanks for the help.

That bar will consider all the stats to be used in the craft. On a final craft of a droid, Shock Resistance, Unit Toughness and Overall Quality are considered. But all we really care about is OQ, so that bar isn't a good indicator there. The numbers generated in the right hand pane would be a better place to judge.

You're "crap" resource would have had better stats across all three of the attributes than the resources you considered good, but worse OQ.

Aha! I think you solved it. I bet thats it. So is it true that the more appropriate material allows for more experimentaion pnts in effectiveness? How is that decided?

The stats of the resource determine the cap on how far you can experiment (assuming you have the points available).

For the easy example. Experimental Effectiveness on a droid deed determines HAM. This uses Overall Quality at 100%.
So if you have 1000 OQ chemical, you can experiment all the way up to max HAM. If your chem had 650 OQ, you are allowed to get 65% of the way (assuming you have the points) etc.

There are very, very, very rare occurances where a freak assembly will breaks the caps set by the resources (but I've never had that happen for myself yet), but other than that assumse the resources stats set the cap.

Yep, looks like Obo helped you already.

The green bar really isn't a good guide simple because it considers everything. Even stuff that doesn't apply. Just make sure you are using resources that are the best for what line you want, such as effectiveness.

Also remember that for some modules, like Stimpack dispensers, multiple lines matter. Droid repair kits are a big one as well.

Right. Silly me for thinking the SOE would have enough sense to have the bars reflect what actually mattered.

Thanks guys.

Well they do, just not in the way you are thinking. See the thing is that in many crafting professions, such as Shipwright, you may have 8 lines to experiment on. The green bar will represent which resource will be best for all 8 bars. However, if you only care about say "mass" on a ship componant and not the other 7 lines, you would need to figure it out for yourself.

So it does reflect what matters, but total, not for a specific line. Hope that made sense.
