Thread: Hmmmm.... DE-only droids? DE-only COMBAT droids?

Anyone see a difference there?

How about, as a master perk, a special droid chassis, VERY cool looking, something noone else could own, perhaps a 'droidmaster' droid that could grant us greater control over our other creations, or grant a boost to our abilities with them, or crafting or whatever...

Then let ANYONE buy a combat droid, (and I'll use familiar names here, but they don't HAVE to be those designs).

Let a trooper/battledroid be created that is a LOT like the current probot in terms of stats, maybe bump up the HAM a little, but make these colorful, comic characters with amusing animations and phrases. Let 'em take a personality chip, and let anyone use 'em.

Next have a super battledroid be created, with better attack, better defense, and usable by anyone... But add one 'combat module slot' to the droid schematic.

Finally, the destroyer droid/droideka, enough people want it, and the resistance on the anti- side is certainly there, but sounds very tired of arguing. If we're going to do it, make the droideka only usable by elite professions. Give it two combat modules, maybe even three for an advanced model.

Now, what is a combat module? A combat module is a new kind of module, which comes in two basic forms: Attack and Defense. Perhaps an Attack Module 1 adds a 'Heat' special attack, while a Defense Module 6 would give a 'Group Shields' special defense. Make the use of these specials certified to appropriate professions, such that most combat classes will get interesting possibilities, maybe armorsmiths could be auto-certified for all defensive modules, while weaponsmiths could be auto-certified for all offensive modules, and Droid Engineers, of course, would be certified to use any module they can create.

Man, that was some GOOD coffee...

I neglected to add: Use of specials must come at a cost, probably to the Action bar of the droid. Higher level specials would of course have higher costs, and it's likely that only a VERY highly experimented droid made with VERY high quality materials could maintain shields while pumping out high end attack specials for more than a few seconds.

Hey, great idea! Now where have I heard that one before...

Seriously, though, it is a good idea. I believe that the main driving force behind the push for a superior DE-only combat droid is the desire to circumvent the 250 skill point limit. There are a ton of really good ideas for new droids (which could also be implemented as new modules if the devs don't want to have to create new graphic models) that would give the Droid Engineer profession a huge boost.

A DE-only UTILITY droid would be the perfect capstone to the profession.

I want some o' that joe!

LOL. I like the idea of a combat droid that talks smack. That idea is great.

I would also like to see more comedy from the droids. The personality chips can be a hoot the first few times you talk to your droid, but no one else gets to hear them. You should be able to program how your droid responds to commands when they are inserted with a high level programmable personality chip, perhaps. At least program in a list of things that it would say when engaging in battle and when running away. Whichever flavor of personality chip that was installed would determine the type of random occasional response it said.

Like if it was getting whipped in a fight it could say things determined by the type of personality chip installed, but when it was responding to your commands it would say things that you programmed it to say.

Sounds good to me, especially the plan for the combat droids. I still don't think the DE only droid is necessary but a non-combat droid doesn't pose nearly as many problems and issues as a combat droid.

Ir roger-roger droids were in the game, with similar-to-probot stats, PLUS personality chips. That would be dope! Especially if they said stuff audibly during combat!

How is making a self only battle droid trying to get over the skill points?
You ever hear of CH and lvl 200 droid engineers in Anarchy Online?
