Thread: TH mislead us?
From today's patch: POI Tab for the datapad -Thunderheart
From his recent post in the DE forums: We also want to give Protocol droids a role in missions and in getting players to cool and interesting parts in the game world…(personal heralds of a sort). - Thunderheart
Perhaps I just assumed too much from that vague line, but i thought that "getting players to cool and interesting parts in the game world" was reffering to protocols being the source of POI waypoints.
Ok, so, my assumption was wrong. Well, now we have a tab with all that info, vehicles to get us there, HOW DOES A PROTOCOL HELP?!?!
I can't help but think that this line is a idea tossed around by the Devs. Something that would be "cool to tell the DEs" but ended up just being a tab of waypoints. The "role in missions" is looking even more vague now.
I'm starting to think the DE changes will be nothing more than the addition of a few combat droids. Which is nice and all, but i was hoping to see existing droids starting to play some roles too.
Thoughts?
I've been thinking about this one and I've come to the conclusion that the POIs that are listed in the datapad and the herald role are two different items of content. Imagine if you needed a Protocol droid to speak with Jawas or other aliens in the game that you can't currently interact with. This would open up new quests that could be performed, since no one is able to talk to any of the NPC Jawa in the Jawa 'city'.The way that I see it, there would be only two ways to understand the Jawa, either through the use of a Protocol droid, or as a Smuggler.
More player content is being pushed for in this game, just like in other MMORPGs, but with the priorities of Player Cities, Mounts, and now vehicles, I think that the added content have taken a bi tof a back seat, as is in evidence by the 'Monthly' Story Arc. The POI tab was created to give players that don't frequent the forums, which is a much larger percentage of the community, the chance to find much of the Points of interest that have been 'hidden away' from the casual gamer.
The changes to BE and CH in this publish show that the DEVs have had the chance to free up some of their resources and let the programmers, and designers, take a crack at profession fixes. There has been a lot of work on creating new quests and fixing broken ones. My bet is that when the Protocol droids are changed, there will be a lot of quests added that will be affected by this change.
Thats my opinion though

Yeah, that would be nice. A protocol that actualy translated. I probably just went too far in my assumption.
