Recently i read this forum post and saw that power droids are soon going to be able to power harvesters. This sent a shock into me, because i currently run a energy buisness selling energy for harvesters. Looking at this i really hope that it will cost more then harvesting power on it own by a long shot, or else why even bother with energy harvesters. I can see my 15 Fusions going to the dump *cries*

First... don't count on it before spring or summer. Second... it is an "idea". Who knows what they will end up with. Maybe the droid will have to be loaded with energy? Third... it will be bugged.

Before you cry...look what goes into making a power droid. They require a "Power Core Unit" A rather pricy pain in the butt component made not by DEs, but by Architects. Power droids are not going to be a cheap alternative to normal power. They may be more convenient, but they definately will not be cheap (assuming they don't change the schematic)

Please...Please...Please... Don't associate anything in that post with anything that's going to happen anytime SOON, if at all... Plus I'm guessing Power will always be cheaper - Power Core Units alone would be more expensive than buying power, and that doesn't even include the droid, which would decay.

I'm a master architect. Power Core Units aren't pricey. If you're paying a steep sum, you're getting robbed.

5k for a componet is pricey... You may not relize we need the BIG power core for droids, not the small cheap one that makes logical sence..

Nobody wants to ruin the business of any other class or organization - and buying power - taking it to harvesters and depositing it personally should remain as the cheaper option

BUT

For those who want to automate the boring business of harvester runs, me included, Droids should be there to do the job. Droids are meant to be a help, an assistant, and if it costs a little more why not - for the saving of inconvenience? Yes have them loaded with power to deposit as needed. Just save the common Citizen the pain of the harvester runs with little or no no combat skills. It's time the crafter was able to operate a business without having to have at least Pistol4

Maintain, power and report status - its not much to ask of a Droid. Course the battery issue needs to be solved too!

Power will most definately be cheaper (assuming your charging a reasonable amount for your power). You have to consider the cost of the droid (which will need to be replaced) and also the increased harveser maintenance. On top of this, people will still need to have some power or something in the harvester unless they want to time exactly when the droid will run out (or take it out early). Also, nothing was mentioned about factories, these may or may not be included in this. Finally, powering harvesters/deeds isn't the only good use for power. I use radioactive energy in all of my meds that will take any inorganic since it generally has both a high overall quality and potential energy (makes the meds a lot stronger).

Your power will likely still be cheaper or competitive, especially if you use fusion-ion generators, which you should be doing if you're a power seller.

My unit cost for power from my solitary fusion plant is ridiculously low.

So what? Is a power droid supposed to only be bought so it can power another persons droid, but not your own, or even itself? The DE's have been needing love for a long time, and now that we've got a plan of what might happen in the future, everyone's getting up in arms. We "may ruin" your business, but what about our business. Last I checked, DE was a profession, PowerMonger wasn't.

Energy Dealers should be encouraging ppl to buy the Power Droid *gonk*. Yes, I said it, because the Power Droid is the slowest *gonk* droid we have. Try having a Power Droid follow you from town *gonk* going through the wild for 5000m while *gonk* you are looking for the best percentages of a resource. It will be very agravating to say the least *gonk* unless you spend 15 Skill Points for Novice Scout (for the basic camp).

The Power Droid does have one *gonk* component needed to be made by an Architect (0-0-0-1). *gonk*. I really don't think Architects are going to place so high a price that it'll be worth a *gonk* DE spending the 11 Skill Points to make their own. This would open the door for a DE to make *gonk* house deeds to sell to offset lack of Droid sales.

Also Energy Dealers won't be in the poor house due to the increased demand for Alumnium (sp) needed for the Power Core Units and the Generators that are a sub-part for a Power Core Unit. Go ahead look at the schematic requirements you'll see SOE's idea to use the Power Droid in this way is a win-win.

*gonk*

changing the subject slightly, if you have 15 fusion reactors (which also suggests two accounts and a lot of credits) Then I won't exactly be crying for you mate.

I would not worry about the power droid, as descriped noone will purchase any.

Unless a power droid is under 3K in price you will need to search out a place to find it no bazaar.
Energy is cheap, plentful and easy to carry. I can purchase alot of energy, and keep spare energy on my character.
The power droid don't save any time, I still need to do runs to harvestors to put maintenance fees in them; now and just don't have to carry around energy, see above.
It may or may not take up my 1 droid spot; also based on what was said in the CH message about droids the devs don't know what they are doing.

However why would I want a power droid?
