If they want to regulate Droids by Certs, I don't see a problem with that. I don't think Non-Combat droids should ever be restricted in anyway, but if the only way to get viable combat droids is through certs...then so be it. As long as every Profession got the certs. Whether you be a Master Bounty Hunter or a Master Chef (anyone who has the money to buy a Droid Bodyguard should be allowed to), you could use the best a DE had to offer. With everything filtering down from there all the way to the novice starting proffesions. Hopefully they would get to use something better then say the current DZ70 (since its practically worthless). If you want real combat droids, this has to be done for the sake of balance (as ifSWG was all that balaced as it is).

All this would be assuming that making these droids would be quite expensive, so they would end up being even more expensive for the customer. Also make their vitality very important, so once its down to its lowest level there is a reason to replace it. As it is now my probot can lose the max vitality and I could really care less, he's just a mobile CDEF Pistol. Unless things change, you can't even heal them. If you limit players to only have 1 combat droid max (maybe DE could store more as a perk), then theyare less overpowered once they get severely damaged.

As for DE only stuff, I think a kind of temporary Slicing (for lack of a better term) for droids could be the thing. Sorta like how a player puts a powerup on their weapon, a DE could temporarily add a boost to their own droids. They could even do this to their groups droids, giving them a group friendly ability. (Great possibilities for this one)

I alsofeel all players should be allowed at least 2 non-combat droids out at one time, and 1 combat droid. A way for Vitality to effect non-combat droids would also be interesting. Though before adding annoying things like Vitality effects it would be really nice if they looked at the whole battery situation. I don't remember Luke having to stop every 10 minutes to shove a battery up C-3PO's arse.

certs = bad

They go against the whole concept/point of droids

certs are okay with me. So long as I'll see the medic return to buy another droid in the future. The only droid affected by this is really the probot. Nobody buys a medical droid unless they have medic skills, nobody buys a crafting droid unless they can use it, and nobody really buys much else.

True, but this is a Game...not a true representation of the Star Wars Universe. Not only would this create amarket for Lesser Combat droids, it would balance out there power somewhat over time.

The reason they nerfed the Probot to near extinction was that "anyone" could use it, and it was too good at what it did. The only way they are going to add better Combat droids (that dont suck) is if they can regulate it somehow. While I may find it stupid in regard to the Star Wars setting, for the sake of gameplay that has to be ignored (like most the Star Warsy thingsare in this game).

P.S. Even if they do add good combat Droids anyone can use without certs, they would more then likelyremove it eventually just as they are preparing to remove non-ch CL15 pets and armor.

I agree that certs are the only way we will ever receive any viable combat droid. The certs should be only for combat droids and not for anything else (this means they need to forget about those awful combat modules). I envision the certs to work per CL of the droid, unless they give us so few that they can go by name. Anyone can use the lowest level and they can upgrade as they move higher in skills. Each tier of every profession would gain a level. Thiswould have to be done so they are not cummulative, or else someone could just train several tiers in several professions and end up being able to use a combat droid too powerful for their level. Eventually a more powerful version can be obtained in an elite profession (any of them) and the most powerful at the Master level of an elite profession.

As far as medical/crafting droids, there should not be any limitations as they are already restricted tothe user possessing the skills to access their functions. However, there needs to be limitations set as to what level module can go into which droid. I really do not like the idea that of all the choices in chassis we have they can all do the same thing. It becomes useless to craft certain types when customers would be stupid / ignorant to buy the most expensive chassis over the cheapest as they all end up doing th same thing.
