Droid Engineer Archive

Well, I've gambled since the release of SWG that eventually DE's would get fixed and make possible what this new DE plan proposes, the Combat Droid Engineer. My character is a human Master Droid Engineer, Master Artisan, Pistoleer. I've migrated my stats so I can wear composite armor. I use scout blasters, FWG5's, and DX2's. My play style is 50% crafting and 50% hunting. I've also been involved in faction wars a little. I know alot of pure crafters aren't happy with the best combat droids being DE owned and operated only, but I love it. Now if they will just give me the droid equivalent of a Rancor, I'll be prowling Endor, Dathomir, and Dantoonie just like the Master CH's do. And I'll be much more Starwarsie they they are! They should give me a droid that powerful! After all, I've had to master two professions, Artisan and Droid Engineering in order to be in position to use one. And I have a feeling, they are gonna fill in the gaps with plenty lesser combat droids to sell to non-Droid Engineers. So there will be a market.

I'm still holding out for more details before I say I'm happy but I'm certainly beginning to smile...

No where in THE PLAN does it say anything to warrant this. I have the exact same profession make-up you do and I'd love to be able to share your enthusiasm, but I can't. The points laid out in THE PLAN don't say we are becoming a combat class. All it mentions is something about being bale to place combat modules in existing droids. Shoving a blaster module into an R2 with 210 HAM is nothing to get excited about.

Personally, I have faith. I'm close to the same makeup, with a hint of CH thrown in there (until they impliment the dabbler nerf that is). I believe, even though it's not stated, that they will make a bigger, better combat chassis that will be for DE only. I also believe that putting a combat mod into another droid will not be such a bad thing. If you get something large to take some damage, and you've got R2 sporting a DX2 or T21 equivilant, you won't need to worry about it's HAM. And if it manages to get the aggro, all the better. The user of said droid will come to US for repairs, and that means more money and business for us.

Bring it on, I'll make the most of whatever they throw at me. I WILL NOT give up DE because they screw me over, I will just complain more

Well, I plan to hang in here and hope the DEV's make it possible to realize the direction I want to take with my character. I really don't see it as a balance issue if a Master DE's pet is the equal of a Master CH's pet. At least I wouldn't have to deal with having to house break my droid. And I don't buy all the doom saying about how its gonna destroy the droid market. I think the economy will be just fine and will improve with the sale of the lesser non-DE combat droids. And I get bored doing the same thing all the time. So a hybrid crafter/combat character is more my style.
