Sounds to me like combat droids are dead because they can't distinguish between crafters and combat characters. As a result, they think giving powerfuldroids to anybody outside DE or DH would be unbalancing. Does any crafter feel balanced to duel a Bounty Hunter, fight in a GCW battle, or do any of the quests? How about when your harvester is camped by mid-level (30 or so) red dots.

Oh, you might get a couple of new utility modules, if they prove easy to code.

Balance does not mean that all the characters fight equally well.

If your class is a combat monkey (like Master Bounty Hunter) that prevents you from doing much outside of combat then a class that can fight you to a standstill as well as craft items and heal wounds isn't balanced.

There is more than onesuccess metric in SWG.A class that can harvest resources in places you don't dare go, and can sell his goods just as well as you can, but can also make big money on high end missions is a little toostrong in the money game to justifybeing completely dominant in the combat game.

Yeah, but a Master Bounty Hunter can't harvest resources in locations you can't go.

Well, I suppose they could plunk down a harvester and hope for the best, but you get my meaning.

Sure he can either by looking where other harvesters are, buying a waypoint, or by investing only skillpoints. That'sa lot fewer than I have to keep in Novice Pistoleer just to be able to handle low level mobs around mine, and doesn't begin to touch his combat ability. Most of the big resource miners are high level combat types in my experience. Especially the ones who have high grade stuff.

Of course once he has Novice Artisan, he is only 12 points away from Bus 3 and a vendor, and he can drop that once it is placed. Or he can havemany NPC vendors and tentsif he used to be a merchant. On top of that he can get schematics made on his resources and make a factory run of droids or whatever to sell as well (well, probably not droids just now).

That should read "only 15 skillpoints" the cost of Novice Artisan and the base survey skill.

I thnk THs post is right on track. Down with DH, up with improved droids. Lets figure out good combat droids later. I continue to say, up DE reqs and put the certs in the DE tree. Droids are fundamentally different thatn other "products" in this game, and -- balance permitting thru increased skill points invested -- DEs should be able to control combat droids along with DE dablers.

I have to admit, for all the playing of the Devil's Advocate that I do I am not really all the crazy about the idea of a Droid Commander.

It's not that I feel that the idea of someone trained to handle droids is completely unworkable. I think it could be done quite well. It's just that I don't think it -will- be done well that worries me.

If you put combat droid certs in DE, it would certainly take on a much different atmosphere. If the combat droids were any good at all, alot of people who wouldn't even normally touch a crafting profession will begin to use DE as their tool, along with some other combat profession. Then DE, instead of droid handler, would become the next CH of the galaxies. Not saying wether thats good or bad, just leaving it up to interpretation.

It would be stupid to put droid certs ONLY in the DE field. We would be self-supportive and would have no way of making money because everyone would become a DE. I did it so I can be a merchant, not a battle-bot controller. Now, given the opportunity that DE and any other profession can control droids...that would be fine. But to reserve the use of droids to ONLY DE, that would just be ignorant.

Addresses every issue i have heared of. It evolves from just a first thought , To a Surity.

Certs in Master artisan, one branch of DE and Master DE.

Total cert Master DE, Master Atrs, costs 28 points and one naster box More than CH. DEs Could be as powerfull as CHs withoutt rocking the boat too much. (tho they need not be AS powerfull, but close, i hope)

Craftsman have an easy path to a healthy cert MArts and 'DC'4. Or an easy route to a limited cert. 'DC4 or MArts.

Everyone has a relatively easy rout to a Limited cert, (arts E4, 'DC'4 for 49 skillpoints). (and,, they'll buy droids! (g))

There are No Steeenking 'Checkers' in crafting skillpoints !

I kinda liked the concept, but it made no sense. I think the DE's should be the Droid Handlers. It would be the sorta combat-ish profession for Artisans who wanted a little more than just making items.
