Thread: Ponderings about the new probot and combat droids...
When the servers went down last night, I made a character on the test center to see Bestine and the new probot (up close and personal in all its fuglyness).
As a side note, I was pretty disappointed at Bestine, which appeared to have even less NPC imperials than normally, and a simple star destroyer picture stuck in the sky that didn't even move (TH keeps talking about star destroyers "circling overhead"...what the hell). That, however, is beside the point.
I also ran a couple of missions for travel expenses and visited 2 cities on Tat., 3 cities on Naboo (including New Unity), and 2 cities on Corellia. I ran around each city for 15-20 minutes, asking anyone and everyone I could find whether they had a probot.
After over 2 hours of searching, I could find NOT A SINGLE PERSON that had a probot. In fact, a lot of people simply told me "go find a droid engineer, they might have one."
Although I was really pissed that I spent 2 hours looking for the homely beast in vain, a thought occurred to me: "People who are creating new characters to play on the test center are not buying or making use of the CL10 droids." When the game came out, sure people bought them...they had good hams and were something new and cool to have. However, after the coolness has worn off and they are limited to CL10, my experience on the test center would tend to imply that people simply don't feel the need to buy or use CL10 pets.
My queston: Since the Devs' plans to fix DE seem to all revolve around (1) combatmodules for droids with CL less than 10 and (2) combat droids limited to a small section of the overall population (either through a DH profession or some skill point equivalent)...what the heck are these planned DE changes going to do for us, if anything?
*ponder*
Maybe nothing, but it's what we asked for.
Also, I've never really felt that Test Center is very representative of the live servers. Besides the fact that there is just a fraction of the number of players there, people just play a bit differently. Especially like now, right before a new publish, people will go on to test the hot items (like coloring their bikes or what-not). That's why so many bugs make it to live servers.
Personally I'll be happy when we can get past the combat droid thing and get crackin' on the utility droids we've all been talking about for months... those will be far more helpful to us as a profession.
