after watching SW2, AotC again...i think i realize what is making this all so frustrating for us... Droid armies need to be a reality in game and yet players must expend skill points and time for power in battle, whether that power is droids, creatures, better skills or equipment usage...what it boils down to is usage, cost and where and whom its used. droid armies should be allowed in specific situations against speicific targets, for example: one way to allow someone to have more droids then normal, a militia has just warned a group of people in the city to leave, after the timer on the warn goes, then the droids can attack the militias warn target. The maxiumumnumber of droids allowed outin militia would be based on the size of the city and the specializations the city made.

PVP droids need to be entered in also, they would be player made faction pets that require a certain number of faction points and/or rank in faction. and would only be allowed to be used against opponent factions.

Another example is droids in battlefields, basically people want to control large numbers of droids, but in normal everyday hanging out it isnot appropriateto see more then a few protective droids around someone, enter the battlefield, assuming a player enters one he can then call out all the droids he owns and ones for PVP all together.

Take a second and think about the situations where these droids armies/high power droidsare used. They arent used in private hunts (not more then a few) and assuming they're big with lots of firepower they are no different then a ATST or any other large scale war support tool. If they wish to make high end combat droids for PVE fine, but those will require a new prof that will be able to be dabled in for at least some more interesting combinations. Ergo:

Droid usage4 trees with 2 lvls in each, the upper lvls would be the adv droid handler/user so on: Getting all the lvl 2'swould allow a droideka. or 4 if your a high rank DE. then a PVP droideka requires no ranks in droid usage but requires 3rd rank in faction and 500 faction points. droid would be repairable/non permdeath (think about it, a faction pet that kicks but and not permadeath, but still costs points!! sales baby!)

and for those whom must own even better combat droids personally (in PVE) then an advanced droid usage skills that arebeyond 2/2/2/2 would be things like the super battledroid, the IG88 for mastering and multiple droidekas along the way too. the profession would be slated as droid programming and operations. give the DE and the SL a boost in the profession and create adv modules like adv artillery for commandos, adv stun weaponary for BH's so on...there is a myriad of possibilities but the key is understanding that mass droid weaponary has a place in PVP/factional battle. please feel free to eloborate on this. i will keep refining this concept myself.

Tree something like this:

Droid Programming and Operations:

Novice Droid Commander (pre-reqs, mastery of novice profession or of elite profession) cost: 6sp's, 10000 combat xp and 10000 gen crafting xp.

Novice DC gets: +2CL lvl Droids and +1 stored droids

Tree 1:

Droid Programming:

  • 1 Default programs:

+1 CL lvl, cost 20000 gen craft xp or 10000 droid craft xp

  • 2 Basic Program alteration

  • +1 CL 40000 gen craft xp, or 20000 droid craft xp

  • 3 Adv program alterations

eck oops ill keep working on it didnt mean to half post, basically my idea is to make 2 sets of trees rely on crafter xp (with bonus to droid craft xp if used) and 2 sets of trees combat xp based (maybe app points too) with SL xp bonus'd. skills would cap at rank 2 pending all droid hander.operator making it to rank 2 so a crafter would get skills like this:

0/1/0/0

1/1/0/0

1/2/0/0

2/2/0/0

2/2/1/0

2/2/1/1

2/2/2/1

2/2/2/2

3/2/2/2 * 3 where ever

switch the 2 on left with 2 on right for a combat prof you get the idea.

oh btw it was machines making machines, DE did not make the droids in AotC, they were basicaly led by other droids, not droid comanders

Try this...

Politicians are allowed to recruit (donate) combat droids to patrol PA cities regardless of faction. These droids can be used in defense of the city if it is being attacked and against opposing factions (if the city is aligned). The droids would patrol the city randomly as most npc militia does. Destroyed droids have to be replaced by recruiting more. The mayor of a city (Master Politician or L4 in the line that allows militia) can command the droids to perform certain actions to enforce the laws of the city. Examples would be to patrol cretain areas, attack banned players or overts of opposing faction, clean out encroaching creatures, ect.

This would give the "feel" of large scale driod actions without the potential pve exploits that people have been talking about. What do you think?

You can stop right there. This game is not set at Ep2. It's set after Ep4 when the Empire will not allow anyone to have a standing army, droid or otherwise.

Combat droids in the hands of civilians at all is departing from Star Wars, so DEs demanding we need uber combat droids is beyond silly.

That idea I like. More NPC droids hanging around cities would enhance the look and feel without imbalancing combat. DEs have in the past requested that we could release droids in cities that would become NPCs.

If you really want to make it interesting, allow a PA city to declare war on another PA city and march the droid army to attack....

people would rather see large scale droid battles then no droids in battle at all. timelines bedamned we need to get creative with ways to realistically involve droids in SWG. certs and DH are not really wanted, so we must think outside the box, that means droids for militia, for pvp so on.
