What's your favorite droid, robot, or other automaton (fictional or real) and why?

It doesn't have to be from Star Wars, it can be from any novel, movie, cartoon, or any other source.

Have a soft spot for HAL?, Maybe Data from Star Trek TNG?, That robot from "The Day The Earth Stood Still?", AIBO?

Personally, I love Maximilian from The Black Hole. God I loved watching that movie as a kid.

V.I.N.C.E.N.T. was pretty cool too, but Max just rocked.

Aw, I'm remembering the little tin can droids -- the old one and the new one. They were super cute.

I'm partial to Beezlebot from Tad William's _Otherworld_ series, though mostly he needed an editor.

Also liked the automatons from the Mageworld Series, forget their names, they usually referred to them as 'house-mind' and similar.

Actually I take all that back. My all time favorite are the constantly renaming Ships of Iain Bank's novels.

Mostly books really, since they allow you to imagine more.

Robbie the Robot that came with my first NES. I think I love him because he was as useless as the droids I can make in game

Spin Robbie, spin!

Marvin, the paranoid android, from Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy

That and R2D2, o'course.

Taking a well-deserved vacation from his successful Droid Engineering business, Master Rho can be found puttering around the galaxy.

That's awesome! I always knew the vocal DE's were from my generation. We've had Marvin, Tweekee, Vincent and 'Old Bob mentioned'.

I reallllllllly hate dropping DE, but I LOVE crafting, and there is NO crafting love for DE's anytime soon. I'm dropping DE this weekend and picking up Chef until the Devs pull their heads out of their asses and fix DE.

I'll miss you guys while I'm gone.

Gotta agree about Maximillian, something about him is so terribly inspirational. He just generates this calm and in control feel, and i have to sayhe's one of the most intimidating robots your ever likely to see.Haven't watched the BlackHole in a long while, maybe i'll go dig it out..heh.

I was with some old friends of mine on a Vegas trip a while back... one of my friends was quite drunk at the time and was "coming on" to another one of my friends in a purely joking manner... I'll never forget the line he said, it was such a classic:

"I'm going to wear you like Doctor Theopolis!"

We just couldn't stop laughing....
