Hi all,
Don't know if any of you remember me posting a message a while back about having made a 19-rated harvest module, but then not knowing I needed to make a schematic because I didn't know it wouldn't happen again? Well tonight I made another 19-rated creature harvest module, and this time I certainly did make a schematic (which is churning out harvest modules even as I type this).
I used the exact same resources I used the last time, namely: Erobase polysteel copper (982 OQ, 969 CD), Takuv steel 992 OQ, 519 CD), and Irpoma gas (984 OQ). I was filling an order for a guy who wanted a higher-rated harvest droid than I had on my vendor, and after I had made about 5 modules, bingo, I hit a 28% on the initial assembly, and I immediately knew that was it. I don't remember seeing anything about an "exceptional success," but I also wasn't thinking to look for it. Anyway, I used these modules to make what became a 117-rated creature harvest droid (and more coming soon).
Now I'd like to ask: does anyone know if this is the highest-rated creature harvest droid ever made on Starsider? Crossing my fingers here...
The owner felt proud to get this, he named it "RippenCo-ONE-SEVENTEEN" to identify it, heheh. Throw a salute his way if you're on Starsider.

I hand crafted over 500 creature harvest modules today searching for the elusive Exceptional Success, I was using 15.00 FR Tools, a 45 FR Crafting station, in a Research Center City. I never got anything besides Great Successes, and Amazing Successes. I was using the highest quality materials available on our server (Eclipse) as well. I'm beginning to believe the Exception success doesn't exist, and that instead, the initial Assembly is what will determine whether you can hit the elusive +19 Harvest Module rating.

Although I wasn't thinking to pay attention for it, I don't remember seeing "exceptional success" anywhere, and I think I'd have noticed it if it said that. But yes, the initial assembly is what did it for me, just like last time. I tried repeatedly last time to duplicate the 19 rating, but between then and now I certainly have not made anywhere near 500 modules. I'd say I've made 50 or less of them since then, so I'm surprised it happened again so soon. Maybe the odds are greater the better resources you use?

Yeah, I dont know how it happens, but it definately increases the range of your experimentation, though obviously not all the way, all the time... in the two times its happened to me on a creature harvest module (the only times I can recall ever) the first I was using ~950 oq/cd copper, and it came out to be 94%... second time I was using my nice 995/998 copper and it ended up 99% (and I made a schematic), so perhaps when this happens its ignoring the steel? Who knows...

Still wanting to know if there's anyone who has made a 117 (or higher) creature harvest module on Starsider!

Let me just say I was more than happy with my 104, then I got my hands on better Con Steel, I am now making 107. I tip my hat to you. On the 117

Sat down last night and ran off 400 modules using very similar quality materials to Rippen (slightly higher if anything). 15.00 tools 43.5 station, no city, no food, no buff, exp 20 pts assembly 19 pts (I think
).
No luck for me I'm afraid. I intend to continue but not until we get another high OQ gas spawn on Chimmy, we haven't had one for a while and I'm down to less than a brick.
This isn't a diss on Rippen BTW, just all evidence is useful (as my old history teacher hammered into us a squillion times
).
Well done though flower, maybe we can nail this one yet.
With luv

Do you have to have scout to use them? Does it allow you to harvest more from an animal than you would without a droid? If so, how much?

Its just how people in the forums have been referring to it (since it has no name in game).
Okay then, that clears that up. I was under the impression that someone had seen it actually say "exceptional success!" Btw, in both cases where I have made a 19-rated module, it was the initial assembly that yielded a 28% result, as compared to a typical 21-23%.
Anyway, now the search is on to find more of the same resources before I run out.

From MRwizzard himself........
no bonus to assembly
the success came as the first experimentation attempt
the initial craft was my standard 25% great success (for that particular object)
have people gotten it on the initial craft? perhaps there is more than one way to do it...
I was clicking pretty fast... so I'm only 99% sure thats where I saw it, but i seem to remember more boxes appearing after the first experimentation attempt, as i clicked away the box with that wonderful e-word... although it could have been on the initial craft, but im pretty sure it wasnt...
Last time this happened to me, before I knew what it was, the module came out to be a 94% max, and that was using a different copper (this hadnt shifted in yet, so i was using ~950 oq/cd)
Thats where people are getting the "exceptional success" quote from.

after people have talked a bit, and more time has passed, i might have been imagining it.... although i'm pretty sure it was there.... its just one of those things that gets a little fuzzy as more time passes
on another note.. i had a strange dream once where it was an 'impressive success' i think... at least it started with an i... that was only a dream though
