Thread: Droid Engineering the way it should be

Hey, first off, I want to apologize. This thread is something that's been done a billion times, with ideas that have been discussed a billion times. If you don't want to read another "ideas" thread, just hit the back button now.

More than anything, this is just for me to organize my ideas and stuff, on the way I interpret what the Droid Engineering class is supposed to be, and what I think it should be. I just wanted to get these ideas out.

-Droids are level based. I think it's kind of an insult to our class that an advanced MSE droid with a food crafting station and a med module is just as effective as an R3 droid with the same components installed. I think each higher level droid should get a base bonus to each module that is installed. Give people a reason to buy higher line droids more than just "it looks cooler".

-Give creature storage in data droids another chance. I'm begging of this. Lower the capacity of a data module, and have each creature take up a certain amount of space based on it's size. Make it so that the highest level droid with the highest level module can hold only 1 lvl 50 creature. Add that to my first idea, and you can make it so maybe an MSE droid can only hold something as powerful as maybe a kaadu.

-Raise stats on our current combat droids. 40HAM and 20 damage on something that actually takes a good amount of exp, time, and money to make is ridiculous, when anyone now can have a creature that is 2000+ HAM and 100+ damage. Even if anybody couldn't have those, a DZ-70 is still pointless. Probots are also... not worthless, way lower than what they should be. I think these stats would be fair for their level:

DZ-70 = 1000HAM, 100 damage

Probot = 3000HAM, 150 damage

Maybe even lower those a little bit.

-Certain droids are better for certain functions. I.E., whereas all droids can hold any mod, make it so maybe data modules are more effective in R units, item storage is more effective in MSE's, armor mods are more effective on combat units, crafting stations are more effective on Treadwells. So you don't get penalties for putting a crafting station on an MSE for example, but putting it on a Treadwell droid would give the best results.

-Add new combat units. 2 at most. Droids shouldn't be focused only on combat. But give me a droideka and a battle droid, and I'll be happy. Also make them effective, not crap.

-Surgical Droids can actually heal. But not wounds, and they heal slower or less effectivley (as not to take away from the need for medics). And of course you have to have it loaded with stims.

-As Surgical Droids should have an inheret function, and Power Droids and Repair Droids have funtional, but not 100% effective, inherent funtions, give the Protocol Droid and the Binary Lift Loader inherent functions also. Make these droids who already have capabilities not able to store any kind of service modules. Maybe only armor to protect them. Ideas anyone? Here's what I am thinking.

Protocol Droid = Mini vendor. Make it so you can have him patrolling around town while you are out hunting or something, or set up in the cantina while you are playing music or something. Someone can go take a look at it and buy stuff off of it. Only... so that businessmen still have a place in the game, make it so a Protocol Droid can hold maybe 5 items tops to sell.

Binary Lift Loader = Maybe if you have one of these set up, you can have it at a harvestor of yours, and since it'd be hard to actually have it carrying stuff across the planet, maybe while having one set up at a harvestor, it can automatically put the harvestor's contents into your inventory without you having to go to your harvestor yourself. Or even supply it with items so if your protocol droid runs out of items, the lift loader can automatically load items into the protocol's inventory. This would of course require:

-More than 1 droid out at a time. Maybe not something at novice, but something you can get along the way. Make it so that a Droid Engineer can have up to 2 or 3 droids out at the same time when they get high enough. I also think that the max stored level should be higher. I honestly feel that a Droid Engineer should be able to have 1 of each type of droid that they can craft.

-Customization, allow us to color droids up the customization tree (I think this is already in effect, just broken?)

I think that's all the ideas that I've had. If all of these were implemented, it would make our class very friggin' sweet, and also not overbalanced. I apologize again for how cliche of a post this is, but I just leveled intermediate productions tonight, making me 1 / 0 / 0 / 1, lowly as it is, every level I gain stokes me out =]

As broken as it is right now, I love this class, and I wouldn't give it up for anything.
