Thread: Holy H E double hockey sticks does it take a lot to make an advanced droid!
Yes, last night I had my neighbor to my shop come in and see my R4 chassis sitting in the shop for decoration. She asked if I could make her some...
Having just gotten to the third box in blueprints ( Thanks Tallin Rose for the training! ) I said not only that, but I can also make R2 chassis. I explained how only the chassis will do the display thing, and these won't be real droids. She didn't care. Only wanted decorations. Of course.
Then I started to look at what it takes to make the ADV R2 chassis. I told her to hang on while I calculated a price.
I proceeded to go through the whole mess and figure out my costs, etc. Then I started to try to make the advanced brain ( the only one I hadn't looked deeper into for the resource requirements- by mistake ). Oh look 2 sets of factory required components. I don't even have a factory. So now it's impossible for me to craft my new chassis without one? Yep.
Wow. That's just one thing you'll find in the level III box. I can only imagine the level IV blueprints.
I do like the idea of the complication, and I guess I'll be buying a factory.
I'd like to say to Jabetha and all the other Master DEs that price based on time value... I can now see why. I'll be charging no less than 8 credits per unit of resources now. Have to cover the factory costs, maintenance, power, and time to do all this mumbo jumbo.
To all those young DEs out there. Listen to these guys on pricing for the high end. It's very different than the low end.
Its great you get the R2 Regular Droid, but cant really do nothing until You get 3 levels up in Production Techniques to get the socket cluster.
Loved it when I told someone sure I build you a r2 with Weapons crafting station, only to find I cant do anyting with it until I get 2 levels more. Man what a bummer.
At first I thought I would be able to make droids thatI could sell all the way through my development as a DE, but the higher I get in BP the more I see that I really need to be a Master DE to be able to effectively make decent droids at all.
It would have been nice if the professions skill tree had been designed more like the one for Architecture with a branch for Combat Droids, Utility Droids, Specialty Droids and then a general category for Droid Assembly or something like that. So that as you went up the Utility droids tree you got the blueprints, the modules, crafting stations etc all in the same branch, the Combat branch gave you the armor etc. And the general components came in the Assembly Tree...
Right now there is like low-level droids (little market) and High level droids (Close to master level only, and a slightly larger market).
