Droid Engineer Archive

Hello all, first off I was like to state that I am not a Droid Engineer. When the game first came out I really wanted to become one, but after seeing the limited number of droid choices, I decided to wait a bit before going into the profession. I know the DEV's are working hard to improve the profession so I though I would add my two cents in with the reason why I've yet to become a Droid Engineer, and give some ideas of what I would like to see in the profession:

Choices of Droids and customation:

This is a big on for me, ever since I saw Episode I, I thought "wow, it sure would be cool if I could own a Droideka." While there are actually a notiable number of Droids, there is really only one useful combat Droid,...the Probot. Now Probots are fine and all, but I'm just not a huge fan of them. I think it would be great to see more selection in this area as far as battle droids go. The Starwars universe is filled with droids I think it would be kinda neat to see a poll on the site where you could vote of which droid is added next.

As far as customation, I would like to see each droid to be different. I'd love to see some R2 units as Med droids, and others as battle droids. Or for example, one thing I would like to see added would be adding weapons to droids. Say I just got a new pistol, well wouldn't it be great if you could attach your old one to your droid, I think this would also increase the range of what you could do with a droid.

Actually, the image in my mind that amuses me most is running around Tatooine with this large metal ball rolling behind me. As I wander past some aggro Desert Demons or Bobcatts (those of you who know this scene, I'm sure, are already seeing where I am going with this) and one starts to attack me, the ball unfolds and opens a can of whoop-a@@ on them, finishes them off, then rolls back up and joins me, again.

Ohh, how joyous my runs out to my Extractors would be!

Yeah, honestly, my initial character idea was that I would be a droid engineer to save up some money, and then become a scout, because I enjoy just flat-out exploring the game worlds. No combat skills of my own, but I would be accompanied by the biggest dang combat droid you've ever seen, named Fluffy.

There are a number of points at which reality comes into conflict with that initial idea. I could live out the latter half of this scenario much better if I'd become a CH, but I don't want to tame animals. I want to make droids. I mean, it's Star Wars. Duh.
