Both seemed to have played some role in the SW Universe. Why is it we don't see them in SWG?

All features should have an up and down side to it. There should be good reasons why you would want to, or wouldn't want to, put a restraining bolt on your droid. Some things associated with them could be...

Droids without restraining boltsshould beopen to attack.

Droids without restraining bolts cannot enter cantinas.

After a long period of use, a droid will begin to pick up characteristics. It may run off when you fight a certain type of monster, or it may charge into battle. A restraining bolt will reduce the risk of droids running off. Doing a Memory Wipewould erase all characteristics the droidmay pick up.

Restraining bolts and memory wipes lower the durability of droids.

Droids with restraining bolts have less AI. Meaning they're more likely to get in trouble or not make decisions without direct input from it's owner. A droid with a restraining bolt would be needed to repeatedly be told to follow, guard and attack. Droids with restraining bolts can only have one module active at a time, the owner has to specifcy which module is to be active, requiring them to choose medical or building module before performing those actions.

Droids without restraining bolts have a wider range of AI and are capable of recieving less instructions from owners to perform duties. No commands may be needed for a droid to protect it's owner or to continue attacking. Droids without restraining bolts can actively determine which module it's owner would like to access, never requiring verbal input from the owner before performing an action of that type.

Droids should not be able to be reprogrammed with commands unless they have their memory wiped.

Droids shouldn't be able to be renamed without a memory wipe.

I appreciate your enthusiasm for continuity. After all it's the fiction that brought most of us here. However, I don't see how droid engineers or our customers are best served with either of the ideas you outlined. I think most of us would rather see our long list of growing bugs fixed before new features were added that would make our products even less desirable than bio-pets.

Btw, I think you are a great correspondent for Architects. My partner is an architect and speaks highly of you.

I thought we had these implemented already:

"waddayamean my droid has just disappeared?"

"Well sir, did you have a restraining bolt fitted?"

"No, because ther.."

"Well that's the reason then. And, I bet you haven't had it's memory wiped recently either!"

"No, of course not, you can't d....."

"Well, what do you expect? Droids that haven't had their memory wiped, and with no restraints. They develop a mind of their own you know, and if you don't keep them properly restrainted, they'll go walkabout on you."

"ARRRGGHHHH....."

Remember, it's not a bug, it's a feature.

Was just a thought. I know you guys have a big list of problems and bugs, I have a similar list over here. Just thought someone might have heard why these things were excluded.

But I guess in some capacity, droids are developing their own personalities and disappearing
