Thread: bought +17 exp/+11 assembly....good buy? and is it worth it becoming DE?

I Bought a suit like this for 10 mill...i havnt officaly bought it out yet im kinda on a withdraw thing...is it worth becomming a DE? will i make my money back? mabe alittle extra? and i heard there will be more stuff in JTL...btw what kind of resources do DE use? so i can stock up

Depends on what server you're on, I guess, but in my experience, DE is a very satisfying and enjoyable profession -- but NOT the way to get rich (quick or otherwise). On my server, if I paid 10mill for that suit, it would take me a RL lifetime to make that money back, especially because it won't necessarily allow you to make dramatically better droids than the 10-point crafter can make.


Most of the time, I'm capped by the quality of resources far more than I'm capped by my experiementation points.


Now, if that were a CHEF suit, you'd definitely make your money back and more. Remember that droids aren't consumables, and that most of what we make is affected very little by experimentation.

DE's make money....but not enough for me to shell out that many credits for that suit.

On my server i was trying to acquire a bandolier with a +20 droid exp combined with a +25 block defense. There is no way i am going to pay or keep up with the bids he will get for the it's block defense, even though as Master Pikeman a lot good of good block did me. I do agree that your resources play a bigger role in your module ratings more then having two extra points of exp. One more thing, who thoughtto put a +20 droid exp with a +25 block def, is a sadistic SOB!

Well servers may vary, but I paid 750k for +17 Droid Exp. So that 10 million seems a bit much.


If your goal with DE is to ONLY make money, you probably wont like it.

I bought a +25 Droid Experimentation tape (yes, a single tape) for about 12m. There was no way I could have afforded that without help from a friendly WS who wanted to live as a DE vicariously through me.

I do pretty good business for a DE, but when I see people talking about spending 5 or 10 or 12 million on skill tapes I can only think...you will NEVER NEVER NEVER get that cash back for what it gives you.


Thereis something like1 module where it actually helps (stim) and maybe your droid repair kits have 4 or 5 more charges but other than that you get nothing for it. Especially if you do like most DEs and make everything in a factory anyway.


I'm getting my +2 exp points, but slowly and pretty much for free because for DE you just don't get the kind of ROI that you do as a WS or AS. It just doesnt help you make better droids.

Getting enhancements ain't about ROI, its about having an edge over the competition, and its a great selling point to be a "12 point DE". Bragging rights and such.
