Not that I really care. I hate powergaming and I love roleplaying. And droidengineer seems like a good way of living. Just gotta feed myself.
How much do you make?

/em blinks.

Money? Credits? What's that?

/em digs some lint out of her pockets.

Does this count? Nope, no bellybutton lint either...

Depending on how you price things, you can probably do well, selling Bomb Droids, Medical units (say, MSE with a L6), Storage unit (MSE w/ a L6 Storage), crafters, combat and Bounty Hunter droids...

*IF* you were able to buy all your necessary resourcesat 3c/u or lower, and re-valuate the markups to, 10c/u or even 25c/u ... You would be doing quite well...

It all depends on what your favored niche market is, server, location and pricing...

I have to agree, up to a point. Many resources can be found for 3 cpu or less, but there are still a great deal that cannot be bought for less than 10 cpu or more, if they can even be found. And good quality resources almost never go for 3.

Nothing can beat harvesting your own resources. If you use the largest harvesters, and stay on top of what is spawning and when, it's relatively easy to get 200 or 300 K of a very good resource at very low cost.

I harvest my own radioactive power using BER 13 and 14 Fusion Reactors. The power costs me .9 credits per unit, and generally get 300K or so of it at a time using 4 generators. I then use my harvested power to run my mineral, chemical, and gas harvesters. Factoring in the cost of the power and the cost of maintenance on the harvesters, almost every resource I harvest costs me less than .25 credits.

If you track the resource spawn carefully, it's easy to tell when a new item spawns. Survey for it, make sure it's the quality you want, then plunk down 2 to 4 harvesters on a good deposit - 70% or higher. You'll be amazed at how much material you can get over the week or so the material is available!

Using 99% of my own harvested materials, I make an excellent living as a DE. I currently have 6 vendors in three cities on two planets, and will be expanding that in the near future. Since I can keep costs down by harvesting my own resources, I get a great deal of repeat business, and not a day goes by that I don't have several special orders to build!

Good luck, and enjoy!

DE has the advantage of needing relitively few resources per item (in general) and in may cases items don't need quality materials.

Personally, my profitability is mainly in the low end machines (somewhere in the range of 30+ CPU for the most basic things) with the profits shrinking with the higher end... but still not terrible.

Rather than break down a bunch of numbers for questions about DE profitability, its' easier for me (and simpler for the person asking) just to say how much I've made. I became a Master DE about a week before patch 8, in April (5 months ago). I had 425k then. Now I'm at 57 million. I think that answers the question quite well.

I am still piss poor
Then again I don't really advertise or compete with the other major droid engineers on my server. I tend to get jobs from special requests instead.

It also depends on what you craft. Detonation Droids tend to be hot items, but unfortunately I missed out on good Tolium

Personally I am not in it for the money. More for the joys (or frustrations) of crafting.

Woot!

Ok, so, I'll pick up master merchant and I'll use all of my own heavies. Then I should be able to sell quite a bit if I spread my vendors to all the popular locations in the galaxy .

I love taking special orders, and building stuff by hand when I'm in the big cities. You get a lot of these requests when wearing the master badge?

I'm constantly reinvesting the money I make, so I can't say how much i've made the the about 2 months of being DE, but it's enough to have let me get 20 harvesters up, 3 factories, have all the best resources the server has produced recently, get myself a sweet set of comp armour, and lots of other stuff hehe, so it can be profitable.

Whenever I run thru coronet, i almost always get at least 1 tell from someone asking about a droid. I wear my MDE tag all the time

I do not always get lots of requests when I wear the Master badge. Even with the Master Weaponsmith badge up at times as well...

What I do get, is a lot of questions... "What can I put in a droid" or "how much will it cost" ... or "how do I use this droid" or "how does one work xxx" ... then you get silly orders at times.

I have made about six million in the four months i have a Master DE. I only have about two millioncredits because i spent money on buying a army harvesters, factories and other new business cost. It is picking up and i finally have a vast selection of resources that i harvest all on my own.

I mine, so that is about .2 cpu on resources for me. So anything I make can't cost me more than 3k. (Including factory costs and such) I'm not going to get all mathy right now though. Never priced a droid above 30k. Although I haven't been crafting much lately because of time restraint and factories going poofI still make some mun each day.
