Thread: From SWG Discussion: Holo on Droids
On the issue of Pets vs. Droids:
"We tried to give droids a pretty wide array of abilities--serving as crafting stations, serving as mobile hospitals, powering and repairing other droids, transporting goods, and transporting data (this latter has become obsolete though). That's a significantly wider array of abilities than pets have, and arguably cooler and richer. In fact, the single biggest difference between droids and pets is that you don't tame baby droids in the wilderness and then watch them grow up--and thatthere's not enough combat droids, which we are going to be working on fixing soon."
On the issue of obsolete data modules:
"It's obsolete because we changed the data structure of waypoints, and now they can't be put in the data storage modules of droids. Pet Control Devices aren't really data objects, so they shouldn't go in data storage, of course.
If we fix the waypoint issue, the data storage module will become non-obsolete again. There's also the potential for future new types of data--temporary schematics is one we've discussed a lot, as well as in the future, possible stuff like dance choreography, music arrangements, that sort of thing. That's what the data storage was for, and why we felt a data storage module would be valuable."
