When the Jawas were off-loading their wares at the Lars residence, a large columnar black droid was being lowered from the sandcrawler. I think one could also be briefly seen in Mos Eisley. I have cased the Starwars.com site up and down, and for the life of me can't find a reference to it. At least not one that includes a picture.

Anyone have an idea what it could be?

It was an R1 Droid even if it had no similaritys with the other R series Droids...

Bingo! That was it exactly. I knew a droid enthusiast would have the answer...

An astromech droid? Wow - sure doesn't look like any of the others, but I'll take your word on it. Somehow, with all the endless design potential enabled by CG, the droids in the new movies are less interesting and original than the ones created for Ep IV. Everything that followed from there seemed to lack a certain...something.

You really know your stuff. Thanks for the quick response.

Alright, here's an obscure droid comment for you Star Wars fans...

Have any of you played the Lucasarts game called Rebellion? It was their (failed) first attempt at having people play out the GCW in a strategy type setting. I loved the game and still play it on occasion, but I digress.

As the rebels, you had R2D2 and C3PO helping you out on the screen, talking to you, informing that your fleets came out of hyperspace and whatnot. For the Imperials there were two droids: The IMP-22 "Imperial Military Protocol" Droid and his counterpart SD-7, a very arachnid looking droid, almost a mix between a beetle and the Treadwell droid.

The IMP-22 droid was red, and looked somewhat like the 3PO model, but was slightly different. The absolute BEST THING about that droid was his personality chip. It must have been the "Condescending" chip, cause he'd give you all kinds of attitude and smart remarks. "You seem to be having difficulty with the concept?", and he just said it so matter-of-factly, like you're a complete idiot. God I loved it!!!

I would kill to have an IMP-22 Military Protocol Droid in this game... just to have him verbally abuse me all the time.

I still love the Rebellion game, and I got that **edit** message so many times it wasn't fair.

What do you mean I can't darg those troops directly onto the planet?
