Droid Engineer Archive
Thread: While waiting for THE PLAN, I've found this one in my R2
(made up from various ideas from here and there)
- get ride of the CH profession !!!

- create a new DroidsHandler profession (DH here after)
- transfert existing CH skill boxes to corresponding DH skill boxes.
(steps 1-2-3 are easy to do, just rename the 'strings' used client-side ...)
Next:
- design combat droids (CD here after) with CL (control level) andstats equivalent to the corresponding creature pets a CH could tame.
- have DE to craft the chassis of these CDs. Have armorsmith to craftthe various 'plugable' armor modules and weaponsmith the various'plugable' weapons of these CDs.
- have Smugglers be able to slice these CDs modules (armors & weapons) forsome stats enhancement
- have DEbe the only ones able to plug the armors & weapons intothe chassis (a CD chassis with no weapons modules cant fight).
- have DH be the only ones able to 'tame' (deed to datapad)and train a CD.
- low CL CDs can be used by anyone (best stats same as best current non CH pet(Gurek?))
- upper CL CDs can only be used by DHwith matching DH level (same as current CLsystem forCH/pets).
- DE can craft DroidStims for anyone to repair (heal damage) theCD on the field (as well as repair at-st for imp).
- have DE the only ones be able to fix (heal wounds) the CD (and the fix the at-st for imp DE) with a LE Repair droid of course ...
Also:
- have BE (Bio Engineer)to tame and breed the 6 creaturesneeded for mounts and the non fighting creature pets (to keep the pets for RP).
Pros:
- more StarWars , less PetWars
- newmarkets for DE (CD and DroidStims), AS (CD armor), WS (CD weapons) andBE (mounts) (ok WS dont need more market but someone has to craft the weapons... could alsobe DE for low/mid droid weapons and DE+WS for highend droid weapons)
- DE remains a crafting only profession.
Cons:
- big change is for CH mainly, they'll lose their autonomy to create pets (anyway this is a MultiPlayer game...) but otherwise from a combat/tank perspective it's only a change of how their pets 'look' like ...
This could work also by adding the DH profession without removing the CH profession but only if the CDs are better than their pets counterpart at same CL level otherwise people will stillchoose CH.

Why did he say 'no', you might ask...
Because some day I dream of lining up 10 Droid Engineers with monster combat droids vs. 20 creature handlers with Rancors, etc... And shredding alot of flesh.

Everytime i hear droid handler i have to puke. Why does this mega stupid idea keep floating around?
Hum so you're one of thosewho want to "own everyone" with crafting skills only then ?With weaponsmith skills only can you use the uber weapons you craft ?
I dont mind if you find thedroid handler idea stupid,I mind if you dont explain why![]()

OMG, is this a joke?
And you ask WHY he doesn't like the idea of a droid handler? How about because its totally unrealistic!
A class of people that TRAIN droids? Thats what droid engineers do! They PROGRAM droids to accept their owner's commands! Droids don't need to be found when they're "young," and coaxed into "trusting" their masters. They aren't like animals, its a totally different dynamic!
Droids are entirely technologically-based, hence those that weild the technology to make the droids are the ones most likely to use them, though they can be programmed to accept any person's orders.
Sure, its one thing to argue about game balance, but you don't try to rectify that by creating a concept that is entirely unrealistic and just plain stupid.
I personally see no problem with a Droid Engineer being able to have a droid army to own people with, since DEs have to invest a lot of skill points, resources, time, money, etc just to make the droids. In fact, they probably oughta make Master Artisan the prerequisite, since you need it anyway. With that many skill points invested into the profession, Droid Engineers oughta be able to make kickass droids and go toe-to-toe with a CH, or, dare I say, an imp with an ATST.
And if anyone disagrees with me when I say Droid Handler is the DUMBEST idea since Greedo shooting first, go ahead and tell me, but I know there are plenty of people out there that realize the entire concept is moronic.

Realism ?! in this game ?! I wontargue on this , this could last hours ![]()
I think people have a problem with the word 'handler' because of the CH profession.
Instead of Droid Handler, just think as 'Droid Programmer' or whatever. It's a just away to have a different full professionto be able touse decent combat droidsfor balance purpose (ref: the probot nerf).
It's not because one can build computers that one can program them as well too (this requires totally different knowledge and skills).
But well, it seems the CH design flaw is blinding everyone here too.

just say NO to droid handler/droid programmer.
I don't mind having weaponsmiths or armorsmiths pitch in to make a nice combat droid, but a droid handler profession? the first time i heard this idea i wanted to punch something.
the whole purpose of droids is to make life easier for living things. the droid cert system isnt a bad idea, depending on how its implemented, but it shouldn't take a whole profession to learn how to use droids. anyone could use a droid in star wars. you didn't see "droid handlers" walking around, offering their services. there was one creature handler.
just about everyone and their cousin had a droid, because they did things for you, automatically. not with special input from a qualified programmer. they were built, programmed, and that was it. and it seems that most, if not all of the time, that programming is embedded in the circuits, just like it is now with droid engineers.
