Thunderheart& Devs -

I guess I'll start a new thread since reponses to others just get buried... =)

I don't know if the backlash has taken you by suprise, and hopefully it doesn't cause you to ignore it all because it's "not constructive."

I think the plan has some interesting ideas about where the profession can go, but it's fairly high level and the impression we get is "not anytime soon." It's good that stuff like this is put before the community so we can discuss and debate it and you can get our feedback.

But the DE profession is, frankly, broken. We have a list of bugs and issues a mile long and lots of relatively simple things that could be done to help the profession.

Think of the DE profession as a patient who's sitting in the emergency room. They have pneumonia, a broken leg and can't see out of one eye. The doctor walks in and goes, hmm, you could use a nose job, I may have time in a couple months, and walks out - without even tossing the patient a couple aspirin. =)

That's kinda what the "plan" felt like. =)

I hope the development team is aware of all the issues, and for all we know may be working furiously to fix them but felt that discussion didn't belong in the "plan." Honestly, it should have come before the plan.

If it's possible, we'd all love to see a response to Gorantoth's list - a point by point addressing of the issues. Is this really a bug or working as intended? Can it be fixed? Will it be an easy or hard fix? Guestimate on timeframe? Take the DE dev out to lunch or dinner and talk it over.

If this had been posted before the "plan" I can guarantee you it would have had a much better reception and people would be actively discussing the pros and cons of the different ideas.

If you're not clear on the issues, or just want a better idea of what's going in, have yourself or any dev ask any of the DEs on this forum for an hour of their time in-game and they can give you a quick rundown of the DE profession and show you how it works and doesn't work. Any of us would be glad to help - the people here are the ones that haven't yet given up on the profession and want it to work, though those numbers get smaller every day. =(

Thanks!
