Thread: The Purpose of Droids. Why would they be built in the first place?

Droids (robots) are built to make our lives easier, more efficient, and in some cases, safer.
Boring repetitive jobs are handled by robots in factories. Robots are being used to explore Mars. Robots are being used to look for and defuse explosives. Robots are being used in toxic (radioactive) waste disposal facilities to handle materials that would kill humans in a matter of seconds. Drones (romote control airplanes -- for now) are being used to scout behind enemy lines.
I am constantly hearing that harvester, survey, and factory work are detracting from the game for many people. It makes the game feel to much like a job. "Boring repetitive jobs are handled by robots in factories."
Rangers don't have a Tracking skill that works, but Bounty Hunters do, after a fashion. How about a "tracking droid" that goes out and "finds" i.e. spawns an encounter with a particular kind of beatie? "Robots are being used to explore Mars."
How about a droid that is cheaper than an ion-fusion generator,but less efficient? "Robots are being used in toxic (radioactive) waste disposal facilities to handle materials that would kill humans in a matter of seconds."
A spybot would be cool to go get a look at things beyond the edge of the radar. This droid could lock in target for our exploding droids" to attack. "Drones (romote control airplanes -- for now) are being used to scout behind enemy lines."
Just a few ideas. The DEVs seem to have forgotten what droids are for. People don't keep expensive, complicated technology because it's "flavorful". They do it because they have an inherant worth. They do the jobs that are boring, repetitive, dangerous, or require a high level of computational work.
Pretty simple really.

nonono... they havent forgotten what they are... it doesnt matter to them.. its written on a document somewhere in sony online entertainment (locked away in a thick vault so us DEs cant get to it and prove this) that DEs are not to have any useful droids.... this is pokem_on wars not star wars.... the other company just couldnt afford to produce a mmorpg like lucasarts could
