Shouldn't droids be able to do the kinds of things in the Star Wars movies and books? If anyone has read the rogue squadron series, Emtry scrounged up parts, and bought and sold commodities. C-3PO was asked if he knew how to communicate with vaporators. R2-D2 Dispensed drinks. All these things are tasks that droids do in movies but not in game. As it stands, droids are just passive tag-alongs that idle with you. It would be nice to see them be "alive" like they were in the films.

Hows this for an idea:

Droids could perform the mundane tasks of managing harvesters (Like vaporators in ANH) or factories. They could be sent to a waypoint or somehow be aware of your installation and either go there (or disappear as if they were going) and do one of a few things:

1. Get reports of the status of the installation

2. Carry power and/or maintenance credits to the installation to keep it going

3.Retrieve resourses/crates/products from the output hopper. Some special restriction on output might be necessary to be droid-friendly.

Now they could do this task in one of two ways.

1. You arrive on-planet, then call the droid, and you send him instructions and he physically walks over there to the installation and it does its thing (get report, give power etc) and will send a message saying it is complete and you can store it and call it from whereever you are. Or..

2. You call it and give it orders and it disappears and just takes an allotted amount of time (longer than actually getting there yourself most likely) before it reports to you that it is done. Then you can store it and call it again to use it/collect resources from it etc.

All this would be assuming the droid had a storage module, and installation functionality (maybe specific such as factory, harvester, house. Or more specific like: chemical extractor, flora farm, wearables factory).

What do you guys think?

Devs, is this possible? I know this kind activity really isn't in the droid code already, but its a possibility for a future release.

Yes droids should do mundane tasks. SOE cant figure out how to make that happen, so its never going to happen. next post....
