Ultimately, this is the problem. Slicing droids and any kind of droid module that augments a player's innate skills isn't going to happen. Its basically "free" skills and abilities and I can't sell that unless we also agree to lower everyones innate skills to balance it out...and I can't see everyone saying, "lets nerf everyone so we can have cooler droids".
The other thing is that harvest maintenance, surveying and another class of abilities isn't a viable alternative because of the technological limitation. However this DE effort has let the devs lay the groundwork to add more modules in the future.
This was a strong start and like everything else, it will continue to develop.
Ok I don't really understand what the problem is here because there are lots of useful things droids can do without taking away from another profession. For example a medical droid that can heal or buff when not in the game. Here are the specifics on how a droid like this would work.
- This droid does not replace the current medical droid.
- The droid can only be used by a doctor/medic. How is this accomplished? See the next item.
- The droid use the owners healing/buffing skills but should never be as effective as theowner themselves. This means if you have no skill then you can't use it. It also means that as the owners skill increases then the droid skill increases
- The droid can only be left in a medical center or residence and does not follow the owner like the current med droids.
- Tp heal/buff the droid must be stocked with meds created by its owner.Droid should have a some type of storage module for this.
- The droid will collect credits for healing services. The droid should have some type ofvendor module for this.
- The droid will buff if it has buff packs (but not as good as the owner). This requires some type of medical module.
- The droid will heal if it has wound packs (but not as good as its owner) this requires another type of medical module.
- While the droid is in the game the owner must pay maintenance and apply power similar to a harvester.
- Optional function would be to have the droid auto store when its empty to eliminate empty droids cluttering up the med center.
Now can someone tell me how a droid like this gives anyone "free skills" or infringes on another Profession? I have more ideas on other droids to post later if anyone shows interest.

Bane as a Master Doc man, and aspiring DE, I actually really like that idea alot....I know how much i would have loved that before i was a doc and could buff myself

I like this idea too. Droids were invented to do the jobs that are too tedious for us busy folk, like sitting outside a spaceport shouting "6 buffs for 6 somethings", like running out to my harvesters to place credits and power, like keeping stock of my inventories, like loading vendorson other planets, likechecking myfactories, like delivering purchases, like checking resource availability, and so on.
If only these tedious chores could bedone by a droid, I wouldhave more time tospend with customers and the community. Who knows, I may even have time to go and visit the planets that I still have not seen
Kindest regards,
Karlie.

Ok here's another droid that wont infringe on another profession or give people "free skills". I call this one the Harvester control droid and I know there are other posts about a droid like this but I've also read TH's comment about how this kind of droid would be technologically difficult to do. I'm going to get very specific about my view of how this droid should work and let you decide if this would be a techno hurdle for the devs.
- This droid is a static droid and doesn't move once its deployed.
- Thisdroid must have a harvester control module installed to operate and this module comes in4 different levels. Read on to learn more about control module levels.
- This droid would allow the owner to drop waypointsto harvesters that need to be controlled into its datapad. This would requirea data module and the waypoints would have to be from the same planet that the droid is deployed on. This droid will not manage harvesters on multiple planets.
- This droid can have an optional storage module for added benefits. To learn the benefits read the next bullet.
- Once deployed the harvester control droid would allow the user to select a harvester and perform any function that he would normally be allowed to do.So for example you can start, stop, change resources, pay maintenance, add power and modify the admin list with the basic harvester control module. If the droid has a storage module installed then you will also be allowed to unload the hopper remotely, redeed the harvester, and beallowed to load power and maintenance into the droid to beapplied to the harvester when they get below a preset limit.
- The harvester control module comes in 4 different levels. The module level determines the following factors.
- Range to the harvesters
- Number of harvesters controlled
- The size of the harvesters controlled.
- Range to the harvesters
So for examplea level I module might allow you to control 2-3 small harvesters within close proximity to the deployed droid and a level IVcontrol module might allow you to control many large harvesters over an entire planet.
- Because this is a static droid and doesn't move, it should be deployed in deed form similar to the way a harvester is deployed and should not count against the limit of datapad droids allowed. This will allow the owner to have multiple Harvester control droids deployed on multiple planets, but will also mean thatthe owner mustprovide maintenance and power costs to the droid. This will also mean that thedroid counts against the total number of lots available to the owner.
- To summarize, youl will have to travel to each planet to access the Harvester control droid but with a high level control module installed you can place it outside of a major city and be able to perform any function that you would nomally be able to perform while standing at the droid.

Good idea, but the first thought through their minds would be:
A static droid used in this manner would take business from an active player at that time.
I do love your idea, and I personally think it SHOULD be added, but this response is what SOE would say back to you, or something similar.
