Thread: DE (and BE) should match CH in functionality

Our Droid Engineering profession should equal the already well established Creature Handler profession in every aspect so we can offer people the same options.

We should be able to store the same number of droids that a CH can store pets.
We should be able to call the same number of droids that a CH can call pets.
Our customer should be able to call the same number of droids as they can pets.
As far as combat droids, we should have a wide range of available droids compared to the strength and capabilities of pets that a CH can tame and sell to players.

Only being able to store a few droids and only callingone droid at a time limits what we can do.
We're trying to sell droids here, and we should at least have the same skills and abilities that the CH profession has.

I want to see people using droids all the time, not just rarely pulling one out and then putting it away after a minute or two.

If people can have 2 or 3 pets running around with them all the time they should be able to have 2 or 3 droids following them around instead.

We need to remain competative and offer our customers the same things other similar professions can offer them.

"When Sony and Lucas set out, we said, How can we do this and not make another EQ? We didn't want it to be all about Luke, or combat, or lock our players into a class. So we created a system that would allow players to switch professions during the game, and there would be a lot of gameplay around making that change. If you want to go from architect to scout we've created a system to make that happen."

I do not agree. DE is a crafting Profession and CH is a combat Profession. Where us DEs go up our tree crafting, CHs go up theres in combat. What should be compared is DE and BE.

I do agree we need to be able to craft more combat droids to be in par with what BEs can sell.

I have ot agree with progman on this one, when I got this game and learned you could design droids, I was expecting at master DE with rare components/resources you could make those ball-droids in episode I/II that take on the jedis... Of course I was sadly disappointed. I think there should be a huge upgrade to DE's seeing as how they ARE one of the most slow and boring skills to grind/level, yet they have so much potential.

My 2cents.

I agree that DE should be a match for CH

I'm a commando/TKA and I'm really really tired of all the Pokemon pets. This is Star Wars, and droids should dominate the game!

RenObiOne, that statement about CHs being a Combat Profession is not entirely true. If I'm not mistaken, which I'll admitt I have been in the past,CHs need only 2 full tiers in the Scout tree. Yes, they end up having to take up back up skills inorder for them to get up to a lair to tame a creature, but don't DEs have to be able to defend themselves, and often times become the agressors, so that we can set up or check one of our harvesters in a hostile part of the map? I don't know about you but, more often than not, I see Weaponsmiths and Armorsmiths using what it is that they have created and they are crafters just like us. Sure they produce items that they can't use unless they take the skills to do so, but don't we as well ( Seekers and Probe Droids). Sure, it might be a mistake to give DEs the use of 2 combat Droids at one time, unless certs are added in that would restrict the usage of some droid to the higher combat professions. I'm all for droid certs to be included, if they are made realisiticly. For instance, when and if DEs get the chance to make Droidekas, I strongly believe that they should be restricted to higher combat professions. I.E. All of the Novice branch Combat Professions beyond Marksmen and Brawler. It should also be certed to Masters in the 2 base combat classes.AMaster of an Elite Profession, which includes our own, would also gain a cert for Droidekas. So, this allows fora large number of people the ability to have a Droideka, but restricts them from the noob or 'younger' characters. That role could be filled by the Probot or DZ70 (if it is ever fixed as well).

A second idea that I had was to let Master DEs that have taken a Novice Combat class above Marksmen or Brawler, as mentioned above, have the ablitliy to call upon a second Droideka. This will limit the number of those that have the ability to have two combat Droids out , to only those that have taken intrest in gaining a combat Profession as well. You loss the combat profession, you lose the second Droideka.A set up like this would make a lot more sence, from a gaming point of view, then to just let a DE call two combat Droids out at the same time.

Making SWG more Star Warsy. One droid at a time.

I'm sorry if i wasn't clear - if the average joe with no special skills can call 3 pets, they should be able to call 3 droids as well for combat purposes (what else?) or whatever.

If we (DE) can't compete with the likes of CH, what use are we besides mobile crafting stations. Yes, these are useful, but the only benefit for a whole profession??? Hard to swallow.

Our combat droids need to compete with CH pets on the same level so they are useful and sell.

Ya, CH pets can't craft, but what are the main uses of droids? Why don't we see them as much as pets? Why can't we compete?

What I'm saying is that we should be able to craft and experiment droids as powerful as any CH can tame or any BE can engineer. Give us a chance to compete. That's all I'm asking for.

Wrong. Non-CHs can only call 1 pet, CL 15 or lower.

Aside from the massive overuse of "sure," you talk about calling a second droideka... how about 1 droideka first before people start talking about wanting 2.

Multiple-combat droids should require certs in combat skills, not droid crafting skills.

I agree that CH is a more battle oriented profession than DE ,
but you don't have to be a bounty hunter or an advanced combat profession tousea combat droid efficiently do the Trade federations peoplelooks like marksmans or bounty hunters ... i don't think so .
I think to use a droid efficiently you must have some knowledge, and with tha knowledge you can make different use of droid, a bounty hunter can use a droid to track down fugitive a marksman can use combat interface of his droid crafter can use crafting module and medic can use medic module.
But above all the one who can make anything he want with his creation is the DE , a DE can get all certification needed to use droids within his skill tree other profession than DE should take different certification to use the modules of the droid.

Take care that i am not saying that a DE could use only the medical module to heal someone , but that if he own a skill to heal people he doesnt have to take the certification from a medical profession to use the module if it is able to make one.

And as they are combat droid i think that it require some technical skills to manage a small army the droid engineer should be able to go to battle behind a line of droid ( three at a time seems to me greatly sufficient ) , as a pet classe like other mmorpg ... (for the one who knows as see it a little like bodgard priest in Dark age of camelot)

Anyone can use a computer only someone with some basicknowledgecan dosomethink interesting of it. and the one who know the best use of it, is the one who made it ...

I watched the movies many many times and when do you see a person having 3 creatures? I see one a few times (rancor and master, Han and his Ton Ton, and even many Tuskens with one or two Banthas) and compared to how many times do we see one have multiple droids? ALL THE TIME!

SOE hear me now, this game is like the dreaded "Poke" word and it's ridiculous! Non CH should only be allowed one pet and same with droids. CH and DE on the other hand should be allowed to operate an equal amount of pets at a time. CH are much more combat oriented and it shows with how powerful and how much damage their pets do compared to our droids. Fine, I believe we will get better droids in the future but let us be, at least, equal in the numbers of pets we can operate. And please limit the pets a non CH/DE individual can use! Thank you

Seems to me the point of droids should be that they're a lot easier to use than an animal. The restriction of 1 droid per person strikes me as incredibly silly.

I do think DEs should be able to store more droids in the datapad. I also think that any DE should be automatically certified to use any droid s/he can make. I disagree with us being a combat class. Myarguement is in our goals.

We are a branch off Artisan. We are merchants, whether we have the named profession or not. We make things, for ourselves andto sell toother people. Each and everyone of our objectives is to sell a product that is useful. We take a risk running to our harvestors, but that doesn't make us combatants. We run to the harvestors to get materials to make things. I get no DE experience by making my droids fight. We should get UXP from other people buying, programming, using our droids, but I don't know how that sits at the moment.

Creature Handlers don' start ascombatants, either. They start by going up twobranches of the scout tree that teach them about animals. They them go practice catching small animals so they can catch bigger animals. They then go on to attempt to catch them all. They use their animals that they catch to fight, true, but that's more training to catch more animals. You could say that they are a little bit merchant with the CL 15 and below pets they can sell but I doubt that it gives them as much xp as a stronger animal would.

What it boils down to isthey train possibly dangerous animals while we work at a crafting station making droids that don't try to eat us when their hungry.

I fight animals all the time. I like going out into the wilds. Itake my personally made Probot, my Cu Pa, and my gunwith me. I'm a Novice Pistoleer. I've been a combatant since I picked up Novice Marksman. The fact that I make droids is a completely separate issue.
