Thread: Resources, Which Are The Best And When To Use Them?
I am currently a 4/3/0/4 DE. I am beginning to experiment with making droids instead of just PLing. I am wondering which resources should I use when the request of the schemactic is general. Obviously you use the best quality steel when the schematic asks for steel. What I am wondering is when the schematic asks for metal, non-ferrous metal, inert gas, chemical, etc.which do I use and when?
Case in point. In the frame section is says use metal. Ok there are a lot of metals in SWG. Do I use steel, iron, aluminum, copper...? Which do I useto get the best results?
What combinations makes the best Droid, or does this even matter? Is there a site already devoted to this subject? (If so, please post the address.)
One last thing. Is the experimenting of the droid parts still broken as of today (9-29-03)?
Thank you all in advance.

Experimental Effectiveness:
Conductivity: 50%
Overall Quality: 50%
So if the schematic requires 'Metal' you will want to find a metal with the highest average of Conductivity and Overall Quality. It won't matter if the metal is Iron, Steel, Copper, Aluminum, or Tinfoil. Conductivity and Overall Quality are the keys.
A couple of things to note; sometimes you get things like this:
Experimental Effectiveness:
Overall Quality: 100%
Experimental Quality:
Shock Resistance: 50%
Unit Toughness: 50%
Which is more important, Overall Quality or averaged Shock Resistance/Unit Toughness? That will depend on which one you think is the more important stat. Usually people want both stats to average together to a high number so you'll look for a material that has a good average of OQ/SR/UT but depending on what you are doing you might want to emphasize one over the other.
The second thing is all I am answering is what material to use; not what material to mine. What material you should mine really depends on what you need (what you need is a matter of future use, what you should use is a matter of what you currently have).
Of course all of this is based on General Crafting Theory. Currently droids do not see an appreciable result for high quality materials and experimentation over low quality materials. Maybe a few HAM points on Probots, but nothing as significant as what you might see on a weapon or armor.
Yeah, don't worry about materials. For droids, they don't matter one bit! The only thing that they may help with is crafting station modules, which some people claim higher quality helps, though this is still debatable (just ask an architect, the profession crit fails hurt the most).
So just mine whatever!
