Thread: Renewed Interest in DZ70s?
I've been wandering about the galaxy, and I noticed several folks with DZ70s floating around them... I shrugged and moved on. Then I got a spontaneous order for three of them, with Med-6, Storage-6, and Armor.
Has anyone else seen this interest in DZ70s? I know they are cheap (I sold the above for about 7kcr each) - maybe that's it.

Ummm...how do you fit 3 modules in a droid that only has 2 slots? We wouldn't be using clusters in non-cluster slots, would we? ![]()

after some field testing the DZ70s with L6 armour modules, I can say that they stand up very well against newbie threats like worrts and nunas. They'll happily take a punishing for a good few hours, which is more than enough for a newbie to level up the first few boxes of marksman or brawler. I think the biggest downfall is in selling them. I wouldn't part with one for less than 5k but the open bazaar only supports up to 3k. Also, for novice DEs to make them it would require access to a master who can make L5 or L6 armour plates. Lastly, it's hard enough educating the long-time playing masses. Newbies will have absolutely no idea how a droid works or what it can do for them.
They almost have the potential to be great low level combat droids, but there's just a few too many hitches that I feel prevent them from becoming widely used.
A slight retraction on that. With further thought I may have some way of getting around most problems. Assuming that the novice DE can aquire L6 armour plates at, say, 1k each, that leaves 4k in profit for the novice DE. it only takes 215 units of minerals to build the droid. This means each droid takes 645 credits to build (3 CPU), which finally leaves a profit margin of 3,355 credits per droid to the novice DE. the only levels he needs to be to build these are Blueprints 2, and it would only take 5 sales a day to fund a set of 5 mineral harvesters and a couple wind turbines.
To ease in selling, The novice droid engineer carries around a "DZ-70 Certificate" which he distributes out to any and every newbie player he meets who is interested in the droid. It'd read something like this:
"Welcome to the Arakyd DZ-70 Droid Owner's Manual.
The DZ-70 is a remarkably simple yet effective low level combat droid. it's primary function is to provide assistance in terms of damage taking and delivering. To put it bluntly, it will stand there and take the punishing for you while you take care of those pesky critters and level up.
To use the DZ-70, all you have to do is Call it from your Datapad's 'Data' tab (Ctrl-D). To monitor its health you can type "group" to get the DZ-70 to join up with you.
Once you are ready to begin attacking, click on the target you wish to engage, type "attack" and watch as the DZ-70 engages in close range combat with your target. You can then attack it with ease while the DZ-70 handles the damage.
And don't worry if your droid is destroyed in combat. To heal it, just return it to your datapad and let it charge up again. The entire process takes less than 15 minutes then it is good to go again. It will also recharge its life while called as well, but at a slower rate.
The only thing that it takes to keep your droid going is a small supply of batteries. These are cheap and easy things to find and most every bazaar market will sell them for cheap under "Misc".
That should do it. Enjoy your DZ-70, and if you have any questions, send them to ___________."
Or something to that effect. With all this in place, all the DE has to do is spend an hour or two down the way at the newbie cities like Bestine, Mos Entha, or the like. Would be easier than running missions, anyway.
I pull it out, in a city and set to follow people. They get so paranoid, especially newbies. It's a riot!

DZ70s have always been a favorite of Medics in the field, due to their small size and high mobility. I had a guild of medics request an order of DZ70s with full medical, that I decided to turn down, since the 45 HAM variety never held up in combat, or a strong gust of wind for that matter. Now that they have been increased to 180 HAM, the DZ70 makes a good choice for any Medic, Combat Medic, or Doctor that needs a small droid that can follow them around better than any of the land based droids can.
What's the HAM equivalent given a DZ70s with 40% armor? These droids might make good noobie combat droids now.

180 HAM with ar1 = 360 HAM
180 HAM with ar2 = 720 HAM
180 HAM with ar2 40% resists = 1008 HAM
Nice! I wonder what a good price point is for a 40% resist version. Something on the lowe scale is probably good to make it affordable for noobies.

With Medium 40% Armor, and no Modules, I would suggest 3-5k for a viable noob droid. Throw in 110 Medical and a crafting station or storage and you have a good 7-10k investment.
On TC, where everything tends to be less expensive then live, I offer Adv DZ70s with 2 maxed modules for 5k.
