/SIGH
I have resigned myself to the fact that droids just don't fit into SWG. Oh sure, Star Wars, and the Star Wars Universe is plump full of them. Perhaps what I have really resigned myself to is that Star Wars has no place in SWG.
Either way, I just can't see droids breaking into a game system that did not make adequate allowances for them at the ground level. Most of what I see posted in these forums ranges from tiny grunts of angst all the way to full-on emotional rants about the state of droids in SWG. I have posted from both places, and didn't enjoy any of it.
Having said all that, I am taking a break from being an active DE forum participant. I'll likely follow the forum, and I will continue to make droids, but the "beating-my-head-against-the-wall" bruise on my forehead needs a chance to heal.
To those of you that carry on the fight, good luck. I'll be heard here again, just not till I get this concusion seen about.

You know when I think about it I cant think of anything droids do in SWG that they did in the movies. Lets see...
In the movies:
-droids repaired and maintained harvesters (Episode 4 at Lars homestead-discussion with Jawa traders)
-droids translated languages
-droids sliced terminals
-droids zapped handcuffs off a wookiee
-droids served drinks
-droids fixed severed hands (surgical droid)
-droids engaged in combat (the probot being the only one we see in SWG)
-droids projectedholo images
-droids fixed starships and vehicles (Epsiodes 1,4,5,&6)
-droids tortured princesses
-droids were characters in the story
-droids found characters (Epsisode 1) (BH droids)
-droids were everywhere doing something
In SWG:
-droids enhance healing(surgical droid)
-droids store items and data
-Astromechs and repair droids are heavy hitters in the droid combat world
-droids repair other droids
-droids have crafting stations
-droid chassis can be used as furniture
-doirds are used to find bounties (BH droids)
Am I missing anything? So basically surgical droids, probots, and BH droids are the only direct correlation with the movies. Now granted this game isn't the movies and although I think SWG is Star Wars, as much as it can be, droids are way under represented. The sort of changes they are making to the DE profession now are really basic functions that should have been in since Day 1 or at least in the first couple months of live play. They are not fixing this profession, they are not revamping it, and I personally dont think they have a clue about what to do with droids and probably dont care that they dont. This forum used to be flooded with posts about how broken this profession was and now it is all focused on the weak combat capability of droids and their armor and everything that doesnt work in this new publish. I think combat droids are great and we should have more of them and higher level ones. But they ignore even the simplest of utilitarianfunctions while at the same time putting in a lackluster combat system for droids. We've never even gotten the most basic problems addressed, like experimentation, quality of individual crafters, lack of salable droids by Novice DEs, etc. I think overall that Publish 7 was good for DEs and added some new stuff for us, but it is really trivial when you look out how screwed up we still are.

what Prin said.
I have just stopped gripping so I guess in that the devs have won. I have been a DE since August and will be one in one form or another until I abandon SWG. There is no point beating my head against the wall bloody. I do that enough in my day-to-day job. I will build whatever they give me to build and enjoy my little corner of shadowfire.

Well, I'm hitting the cancel button within the week. I'm already packing up my shops, saying goodbyes, and whatnot.
This game fails on so many levels, and that's without evendiscussing droids.
