Alright, I bought a pre-nerf probot the other day. I start using it, and I loved it, it was awesome. Then I found out it takes wounds and I spent an hour or two trying to figure out how to repair it, only to learn that you can't right now. So I thought alright, that kinda sucks, but its not horrible, hopefully it'll be fixed soon. Then my droid runs out of power... great. So I go buy 10 batteries and stick one in. It works again now, awesome... for 15 minutes, **edit**... So I dump another in, and another, up to 5, hoping I might get a message that the droid is fully charged or what not, but alas no. So one more, and another, still hoping, til I ran out. Who knows what kind of charge this thing has now... So the droid lasts for maybe two hours more. So I paid 1000 credits for these 10 batteries, am I gonna have to dump 1000 credits of batteries into this **edit** droid every two hours or what? Whats the deal with charging.

Droids still recharge when you store them, they just don't heal.

So how long do I have to store the thing for a full charge? How many batteries = full charge?

As far asI can tell five minutes of storing him, if that, recharges him.

I'm certain this is a bug.

One battery is used to recharge R5's, MSE-6, MSE-6 Advanced, and R4's.

I haven't tried them on anythign else.

I use a multipurpose R3 droid in my Ranger activites and the problem I am having is getting the droid to accpt my commads in a macro.

First of all this is what the droid has...

(1) Combat module

(1) Storage Module

(1) Harvesting Module

(2) Trap launchers

What I am doing is using the droid to launch P-darts in a chain for the purpose of keeping a mob snared at a distance.

The problem is that once the droid launches the first trap, it immeditately heads in and starts attacking. The mob is aggroed on the droid but it hasnt struck the droid that I can tell (how can it? its its 50m away) but yet the droid dives in anyway. What I have noticed is that the droid will stop listening to my command to launch more traps once it has gone into combat mode.

The only way to get it to launch more traps is to tell it to 'follow me' which makes it stop attacking, then I can issue it a "Launch Trap" command again but this only works part of the time. More often than not the droid will simply ignore the "Launch Trap" command if it had been in combat before.

The macro works perfectly *if* I take aggro before the droid launches the trap (preventing the droid from going into combat). The droid will sit there happily spamming traps at the mob, but sometimes it is tricky to get the aggro in before the trap goes off because I want to keep the mob out of my face, thus I want the mob snared almost as soon as I am into my cooldown from that intial shot.

The whole point of the macro is to keep the mob snared so I can maintain the highest DPS as a rifleman (I lose a lot of DPS if I am tossing traps myself, not to mention being 'rooted' for a moment while the trap is tossed.). The macro is simple, its just a matter of correct timing to account for the duration of the trap effect and the time it takes to launch the trap. When it works the droid sits there and launches traps at a rate of one every 5-6 seconds. (also when it works, you can generate 2-3k trapping XP per kill (18-27k of trapping XP per lair) and you never get touched by the mob.

Anyone else have experience using a droid in this or a similar fashion or have had problems getting a droid with a combat module to listen? (I used to do this pre-CU no problem)

I think the R3 is a melee droid. Means it have a melee attack only. And like a pet or NPC if something attacks it, it attacks back (and thus charges to melee range).

Try getting an adv pro-bot it has 5 modules as well. Moreover, it even has a build in combat module so you can get an extra trap module if you wanted to.

before the CU my droid used to shoot little lightning bolts at range..some kind of electricty it seemed..and yes now he seems to have turned into a melee droid.

he definitely was NOT a melee fighter before the CU but I still dont see why he is starting to fight when he hasnt been touched. Yes the mob is aggroed on him but hasnt actually touched him. It seems weird that the droid would auto attack when it has not yet received a blow of any kind.

this won't help it being agroed, but if i remember right R3's have a little command that will change it from melee attacks to ranged attacks. i think you can teach it from the "teach" option on the radial menu. that option might have somehow been switch in the CU.....

hope that helps

Well I think i figure out the aggro thing...

I saw in the DE forums, that some new behaviour has crept in with the CU. I saw a thread claims that simply starting an attack when out of range will aggro mobs and is being used as a tactic to pull singles.

If thats true that wold be whats happening to my droid (mob basically aggroed my droid, since he initiated his attack but was out of range, and the droid responded by running up to it)

Try getting a doid without a combat module. Mine is all trapping (+114 trapping bonus), and i tell the droid to fire trap and i do kneecap shot at the same time. MOB is snared and i proceed to plink away till dead. All the while the droid stands at my side. I only have a macro for one trap launch though. (that is usually all it takes)
