Thread: High Failure Rate???

Has anyone else noticed a sharp increase lately in the number of experiment and assembly failures? For the past week or so my failure rate on parts and droids has shot through the roof. I'm using the same 45 + crafting station, 15+ crafting tools, and the same resources I've been using, and wearing the same clothing attachments as well. Yet 2 out of 5 and sometimes even 3 out of 5 experiments end with only "moderate" success. This used to happen maybe once in 10 times or so. This is beginning to be a real drag on my resources, as "moderate" success does not meet the standards my customers have come to expect. It can make the difference between HAM of 5970 down to 5650.

Is it just me? Anyone else noticing this?

I've noticed this as well, but I have been attributing it to bad luck. I was testing the construction of Crafting Stations for a theory in the Artisan forum (EGP's *DO* have a stealth quality rating, I have discovered. It does not appear to affect us, and only have an impact on certain things like MSS's for Crafting Stations... which also has a stealth quality rating) and I ended up making 7 total crafting stations because I crit failed on *4* of them during the assembly phase, and that's not counting the several dozen items I switched to practice on subcomponents because of crit exp failures. That is unheardof for me. A similar rash has happened when making droid components and artisan components as well. I recently had to try 5 times to get one factory schematic of control units of anywhere near an acceptable range.

Bad luck, or a stealth nerf / bug.... guess we'll be able to tell by how many other people are afflicted with similar problems.

Make sure you don't have any BF, Wounds, or Armor on. It could just be observer error, but that seems to matter to me.

I had 1 night about 2 week ago, that I was just doing terrible, but then I logged out and came back in, and it fixed it. Other then that, things have been business as usual.

Thanks for the responses!

I usually have a little BF, but only around 9 to 15 or so. That's easy to fix. Don't usually have any wounds when I'm crafting, but again, easy to monitor and fix.

Now for something that seems to have made a difference. I changed crafting tools. I had bought four 15.00 crafting tools quite a while ago. Two I used and two got put away. When I got the two "reserve" tools out and started using them, the failure rate dropped right down to where it had been.

Crafting tools don't show depreciation like armor or weapons. There is no "975/1000" indicator. I guess when they start wearing out, they just don't work well any longer! Or maybe my changing tools was simply a coincidence?

Curious, because I've noticed an increase in failure rates during assembly/experimentation, too. One day in particular, a couple of weeks ago, it was so bad I logged out and didn't bother logging back in for a day or two.

I then proceeded to notice how often I suddenly got good or moderate successes, whereas before they were relatively rare. I sort of pinpointed it to one particular tool I was using. I've had my tools for awhile, and I've noticed when I die after getting ganked by kusacks near my factory (grrrr....) that crafting tools DO decay. But, aside from dying, we can't see their condition. One was particularly low last time I died - it was 47% condition. Maybe that has some unseen affect on crafting? The tools' effectiveness are 14.97 and I craft in a Research Center city. I was using my droid as a crafting station.

I proceeded to find what seemed to me to be the tool that was failing more often during experimentation/assembly. I then promptly deleted the tool and made a replacement, and my crafting seems to be back to the way it was, ever since I ditched that one tool.

So, I'm wondering if the tool's condition does play a part in this, too. Some of it (in my opinion) is just luck upon logging in (hence relogging sometimes fixes it, in case you get nothing but failures). I think that a tool's condition has some mysterious affect on success, though.

In light of what others have said, I should probably note that I have zero wounds / BF, never wear any type of armor, and I rarely rarely die... plus I'm always insured. I have not had a death since I made my +15.00 crafting tools, so they are at 100% condition. I crafted a couple new ones just to be safe, and my success went back they way they were. I then used the old tools, and they were back the same old rates as the new tools were. Perhaps there is something to them getting "overused" or somesuch, or a relation to condition. Logging out and back in fixed it once, but only once.

I've been doing really good on actual assembly rating, but as far as experimentation goes, yea, it's rare for me to get a good experiment result. When I'm crafting my med droids, it's made a difference between a 100 or a 110 rating. I haven't noticed anything else, except for the droid batteries, where I can get up to 3 batteries per assembly if I get good experimentation.

It is frustrating to say the least that I fail on all my experimentations. It's the equivelant of a crit failure in my mind, cuz it's a wasted component.

Are you making level 6 med modules? You should always end up with a 110 rating no matter the resources or the experimentation.

I think he is refering to his stacking results.

Yes I am, Drashk. I can make level 3 medical modules... when I put2 in a droid, I can come up with a 110 rating, if I get good experimentations. If not, then I get stuck with a 100 rating droid.

I'm nowhere near master. Check my recent posts around here, you'll see I'm the struggling novice.

Right I knew that, just wasn't thinking I guess. I knew that two level 4 mods hit 110 pretty easy, wasn't thinking about you just using 3's.

Best bet is to probably get that good exp then make a factory run.

You also need to figure that until you are Master DE, you are going to fail more in assembly as well as exp. I'm not just talking exp points. The difference in skills is a lot.
