Thread: Nav Computers Anyone?

I've thought a lot about the space expansion. This would be a GREAT opportunity for the devs to add some new stuff to DE. It's a well known fact that in the SW universe droids are used as nav computers for ships. They can also maintain and repair the ships while housed in them.

If these things are taken into consideration by the devs, we would be able to make a whole new breed of droid. What kinds of modules/droids would you like to see for the space expansion?

I'd love to see Starship Repair modules, which allow the droid to repair your damaged ship while in space. I'd also love to see some type of Nav Computer, which allows the droid to store map data of explored regions of space. Different levels, of course, would determine how much data. Or it could simply function as a Data Storage module for space nav points. Who knows? I'd also like to see some droids that modify your weaponry, or even make your weapons smarter.

These modules could also be installed directly into some starships that can't house a droid (such as TIE fighters). I seriously hope the devs think of these things. It would make Droid Engineer the useful profession it's SUPPOSED to be.

I'd like my BLL's to be able to be made combat ready so I can get them to fight Aliens, onboard my starship.

We don't need new modules at all. It would be far better to simply improve and fix some of the mosules we have already.


Navigation Information- The perfect opportunity to make ourDATA MODULESuseful again. Storing of courses (like planetside waypoints but with no possibilty for abuse because the ONLY places to put them would be in the droid or in your ship, a personal datapad shouldn't be able to handle them). Adding a Calculation rating and tying it to the computer we already install into our droid chassis could allow for faster plotting of courses.


Starship Repair- This ties into a way I thought of to repurpose our REPAIR MODULE. Add an optional slot into the droid repair module and give us schematics for different chips to insert, like our currentpersonality chips, but for repair of things like vehicles and spaceships (maybe armor and weapons too?) I came up with a detailed way to repurpose a lot of our modules using a consistent design, but since we just got our love, I dont see it happening for us.

I hate to say this, but we have so many modules already. Im not sure what the solution is since I too want to be a part of the production of space-craft. But, we are already overwhelmed with too many modules. We could use some streamlining.


1st off, get rid of ALL level 1 2 and 3 modules. Does anyone ever make a droid with a level 3 storage compartment? Rename 4 5 and 6 to 1 2 and 3, keeping the same stats they have now. Then we would ony have 3 of all those numbered modules. (Why are there only 3 levels of structure maitenance anyway?)


Next, combine the functions of a the trapper and harvesters. Make it a scouting module that combines both functions. Let experimentation determine whether it holds more traps or has a higher trapping bonus.


And whats with every droid having an adv version? Get rid of the Adv R4s and R5s, just have the R4 hold 1 module and the R5 2. And why would you make any power droid but the advanced? or BLL for that matter.


DEs could really use a thinning out of all these unused low level modules and droids, to make room for spacecraft parts.
